Tone is pretty subjective. i was comparing a stock '69 jaguar and a 2004 MIM standard telecaster without any effects except minimal incidental overdrive on the amp.
I guess to clarify, the jag sounded like an "expended" tele. sort of the same root sound, but more low end on the neck pickup and more (yes, even more) high end on the bridge pickup.
