true, but for $129, I'd quickly get over it and start plans on building a new body...but, that's just how I would roll with it...

http://www.burnsguitars.com/product.php?product_id=32 they should sound "hotter" than your jaggies pickups now, but not as "hot" as a p-90. but theyre the easiest way to get a hotter sound. you may hove to route a coouple of mms of word, or just use brute force. they might not be the sound your after, but they seem to work fine for alot of players.

rather than a fireburd pickup for the bridge the best bet would be a single coil sized humbucker (you do know that the firebird pickup is a humbucker right? so even though a hum would be a nono for your bands sound you want a hum...). easy mod. you could do it yourself with no previous experience and would give the same sound. as for the neck p90... if you like the sound of p90s the only option is to get a p90 put in. it wouldn't be too hard. in fact the only real hard bit would be cutting the guard. you could try any higher output single coil cos the jag pups are pretty low output.

hi johnniespring , yes i do know the firebird one is a hum, well actually it's an mini hum that doesn't have high output. This is the reason why i thought about it (even tho i will certainly favor a 2nd p90 instead) and also because i mainly use the neck pickup most of the time, so i thought it could be interesting to have a more slightly more powerful pickup for certain parts. I also saw that particular setup on neil young's guitar and it has intrigued me.. i'm pretty sure he uses it for the same reason.

Anyways, as for the mod itself, i think you are right, it doesn't sound too complicated. Still if i can't manage it myself, i could have it done by a local tech.. i'll see..

a hum is not more powerful than a single coil. you can get low output single coil sized hums rather than going for a mini hum and the single coil size hum won't require you to route your guitar and guard.

johnniespring , interesting ... do you have specific low output single coil sized hums in mind? wich ones would you recommend for this purpose?

superfuzz already mentionned the burns trisonic pickups, but i couldn't find many infos about those.
