jag-stang or mustang?

Someone help me out...i don't know if i should get a jag-stang or a mustang? I'm a huge Nirvana fan and of Kurt. Kurt said his favorite guitar was the mustang..but he designed the jag-stang..idk what to get..mustang or jag-stang? help me!

i have one of each, i changed both bridge pups, i put a JB in my jagstangf and a hot rails in my stang. the jagstang neck is a little thinner, both are comfortable, both are same wood,

just choose there similar guitars

well..mustangs are alot easier to get than jag-stangs..and the jag-stang doesn't have any body contours,kurt didnt really like the jag-stang much..and the mustang is kurt's favorite guitar..so i'll probably go with the mustang. besides, maybe someday i'll have them both.

dont go with them because kurt liked one better, no contours dont make a difference to me, would you get a 65 reissue off of musicians friend of simiar websites?

i'd get one off musicians freind if i had 700 bucks but i dont..i'll probably find one on ebay or something.

the ones on musiciansfriend dont have contours, the 69 RI, the sonic blue ones like Kurts have them. i got a sonic blue 69 for 350 slapped a hot rails, red tort PG from Aug on there and a Schaller TOM bridge i had. its very bassy, i plan on buying a .22 cap to put some more treble in it, it sounds great as is no doubt though

Dude, forget what Cobain liked or had. YOUR THE ONE WHO"S GONNA BE PAYING FOR THE GUITAR, YOUR GONNA BE THE ONE TO PLAY IT!. Pick the one with the pickups that fit the music you play. Mustangs have thin sounding pickups, and the the Jag-Stang has a bridge humbucker. Not a great humbucker, but better than the Mustangs bridge pickup. My opinion, so if your music store doesn't have a Jag-Stang in stock, I'm sure you can order one. If this is gonna be your first guitar, I'd go with the Jag-Stang.

if thats a yes definitely go jag stang, and be ready to spend a nother 70 bucks on a pick up, and if you can wire it in your self even better, or take it to a tech, i dont think they charge to much.

i have a couple guitars actually..but i've never had like a name brand guitar like fender..i've played many but never owned a fender..i own a couple squiers that i've had for a couple years but that's it. I do play mostly nirvana or whatever i'm into at the time..but ya i'm a huge nirvana fan. It's hard to find a jag-stang any where else except ebay..i could just piece one together from warmoth or get the body from warmoth and find parts somewhere else because warmoth is costly.what would you recommend?

ya i've heard the humbucker in jag-stangs aren't that good..i'll keep the stock pickup in case i ever wanna sell it but maybe replace it with either a dimarzio evolution or seymour duncan.

i replaced mine, im keepin the original for ever. you dont see jag stang anywhere but ebay because they arent in production. get what you think is more fit for you

Don't be a Nirvana-be. Play a bunch of stuff and pick what feels good in your hands. That being said, if you really are set on a Jag-Stang or Mustang a Jag-Stang will sound a little better when you first get it because Mustang reissues have relatively weak and tinny sounding pickups. However, the Mustang is a better balanced, better looking, more comfortable guitar to play. Also, do you have big hands? If so, I doubt you'll be very comfortable playing either one. They're way too small for me to play, short scales just feel like toys to me.

i'll probably end up getting a jag-stang and moding it up to my liking...new humbucker..maybe new pickguard..using the moding tips on the jag-stang page of this site to make my jag-stang freaking awesome!

i do play a bunch of stuff..it's not like the ONLY thing i play is nirvana..i play mostly whatever i like at the time..which right now is nirvana and has been before..i'm not trying to copy kurt in any way i just really like the mustangs and jag-stangs and jaguars.

i somewhat agree with 65fenvox and Rich, but i also realy love the mustang not so much the jag-stang.

That's cool, man. I don't mean any offense. If you like Jaguars I would definitely recommend a Jag. They are far superior to a Jag-Stang or Mustang. Like I said before, I really don't like short scales because I have relatively big hands, but I can't hate on Jaguars. They are fantastic.

ya i've played some jags before at my local music store..i love em but they're too much for me..i don't have $1200 to spend on a guitar...wish i did.

Check around on ebay. You can get a Japanese one in real good shape for about $600.
