Alright guys, i bought this guitar in the fall of 2006. I need another guitar and I love this thing so much Im just gonna buy another one. But... with a few mods...

I want an all maple neck with a vintage gloss on this guy and also change the tuners.

I have some ideas where to get the neck, but anyone else have any suggestions?

Also any other suggestions on what i should do to it?

If you like the stock neck I'd recommend against replacing it. And consider that an all maple neck will alter the sound quite a bit (perhaps this is what you want though).

Hah, of course I meant the feel and sound of the neck. It's obvious that he doesn't like the material for some reason, just figured it might be a visual thing.

they are both metal right?

so why on earth would metal in rosewood sound diffferent than metal in maple?

you can say that its brighter and all that non-sense but until you can actualyl prove that you can hear the difference in a recording and not by looking at it, im not convinced, its all for the looks in my opinion.

Because the metal connects to the wood? Because the wood resonates differently?

In that case, the wood and construction of the body wouldn't make much difference either.

I can't prove it though, since all I have is rosewood fretboards atm. But that has been my impression when comparing the same guitar models with different neck wood. And that was before I read/heard about them being any different in terms of sound. It's not a huge difference though, but noticeable in my opinion. Surely wouldn't matter to anyone else other than the guitarist. 😀

I'm going to have to agree with Robert here, i don't think it makes any difference when you're talking fingerboards, bodys and necks are a different story.

my main point was just that if you like the stock neck it's not worth switching to another one just for the visual appearance. you might just end up paying a lot of money for something that doesn't feel right.

but that's just my sorry little opinion.

Actually Maple boards supposedly have a brighter sound.

Like Ebony boards supposed to sound different.

Rosewood is more open grain than maple thus 'duller' sounding. Same difference as Mahogany to ash in bodys.

Question: Does a maple cap mahogany Les Paul sound different to a non maple cap mahogany Les Paul?

Its worth googling. There is a point to this construction.

Of course it does, (yes he speaks).

Maple neck on a strat is way brighter than a rosewood for example.

But how can anyone be sure?

To test it, you'd need two guitars, exactly the same weight, with exactly the same pickups with exactly the same output, the same quality capacitors, the same pots, wired with exactly the same wire etc. etc.

It's a tough one, i know some people think it does but i'd need to hear it and view the test runs to convince me.

me and my friend both have mexi strats. mine white with rosewood, his burst with maple. both have full jbs in them, stock electronics pickups otherwise, his is way way way way brighter, i hate his sound, way to bright

So you both have the same pots and capacitor, you both had your tone knobs set to the same position, and you both ran it into the same amp using the same lead and both played in the same position on the strings?

both of our strats were standard HSS mexican strats from musiciansfriend. we both put SD JB's in and everything else was stock, minus knobs and. and we both played through my amp with the same settings and all knobs on 10, his is wayyyyyyyyy brighter. so bright i think my ears might start bleeding(not in a good way)
