I just thought I would post some pics of the new project i'm working on for mumblyjoe.

2-piece alder body (3.6cm thick) contoured.

routed for a straight humbucker and slanted single-coil.

the colour will be candle apple red with cream comp stripes. It will also have a pearl pickguard, cut for a correctly straightened humbucker. the lower horn of the pickguard will be shaped to fit more consistantly.

it's also going to have a jaguar tremelo, and tom bridge.

the body is shown with parts just to show how it will look.

If I already haven't told you, heres the plans for the rest of the guitar:

- DiMarzio Evolution in Bridge

- Lace Sensor Red or Blue in Neck

- Switching: Neck pickup selector, Bridge hum splitter OR Neck standard, Bridge hum splitter

- Two concentric control knobs, one for each pickup tone/volume

- Neck: Either all maple or rosewood fret with bindings and inlays

I aim to finish this project next year.

I'm getting Sanchez to do it so ill see what he can. But I'm considering the rosewood with binding and inlays and matching headstock even more.

Whatever floats your boat. I'm only suggesting maple with blocks, because there aren't any others around, and I like those necks.

A rosewood board with a bound neck looks good too. Will he be using plastic for the inlays or abalone?

I used abalone on a neck I made recently, and it looks crap. it looks nice up close but far away it looks dirty. I don't have the right tools to do block inlay, so they will have to be dots, pearl or white.

perhaps I'm just used to the JS having no contours, but aren't those contours kind of DEEP?

Also, that straight bucker is gonna look great.

I wish the dip between the top arm and butt wasn't so deep that it touches the pickguard on Jag-stangs. I like the guitar though, the Jag bridge will look great. Go for rosewood blocks and matching headstock. Mmmmm...

the contours aren't that deep, it's just trick lighting. if it were any deeper it would go through to the switch cavity. I like the jag-stang design. I feel no need to alter it.

You got to get the right coloured abalone, otherwise it looks wrong. Especially if you have the darker shade ones it looks bad on rosewood. But the lighter shades that have a tinge of green/red/blue are awesome.

the only problem you may have is that the jag trem requires a route 3.5 cm deep to function properly and with that body thickness that means there will be 0.1 cm of wood over the back of the trem cavity. which means either you are gonna have to route the trem cavity too shallow and have a trem that doesn't work properly or route through the wood or have a very very thin piece of wood covering the back of the route which will get a hole in it very quickly.

it's time to reconsider the choice of trem i think.

When you say function properly, do you mean to get full trem movement or even just to get it to fit? If it's full trem movement, it isn't a problem as i dont use trem that much and not heavily when i do. If it's do get it to fit, well Sanchez and I will work something out...

That's what I might have to do but I rather avoid that. I'm going to do some research though and see what happens
