Yeah, I know what you mean about the pickguard. I have a '65 mustang that I traced the pickguard from, scanned both that and the cyclone one in and spliced them together. The cyclone is wider in the waist than the mustang. I fudged the back upper area where the bridge is because it curves down farther with the strat trem.

i much prefer the duo-sonic'ness of the stock pickgaurd, and the simplicity of 2 pickups/one 3-way. more cowbell's cyclone looks amazing as it is in those pictures.

just a question, how is one coil of a humbucker wound like a p-90, because p-90s are much fatter and just as deep compared to a standard single coil size. i do love the sound of a p-90 over any other single coil, and humbuckers are fantastic (screw you HB haters) so that'd be a great combo.

Get one of the Schecter Tempests with the p-90 in the neck and humbucker in the bridge.

Eventually I want to build a body and buy a Warmoth neck and put all the electronics on that. We moved recently and my shop is all packed in boxes in my mother-in-law's until we buy a house so bodybuilding will have to wait 'till then so I decided to buy pickups first.

Anyone know of a good saddle set for this? The guitar shop dude told me, it will make a diff if it has an american bridge or a mexican or Jap strat, but I never believe them, I look to you fellow JS'ers to tell me.

i have no idea about how MIA, MIJ, or MIM are made, but bridges do affect sound. the density of the metal and if its a poured or machined block will affect it's resonance. i guess if you could find one, a one piece machined bridge would be best.

the saddles affect things in how tight the tolerances of the machining were to make the screws and stuff. the closer the size between the saddles and the adjustments and the screws, the better the resonance.

holy mother of crap - that is the greatest guitar ive ever seen!

Might have to copy that for my next project (sorry!)- i have 2 spare jaguar pickups from a CIJ jag reissue and a spare Super Distortion that would work so well in this guitar! aaaaaah!

Here's what I've done to my Cyclone since I posted it last:

I finally managed to get the pickguard production in place. Here's a picture of a plexiglass practice one with the Carvin in the neck and a Seymour Duncan "SEY J" in the bridge. They both have their own series/parallel push-pull pots.

Those pickups were put in as an experiment. I'm told the SD pickup is an old seymourized Jazz neck pickup. I got it out of a '77 strat I got at a pawn shop in the early '90's. It still bore the scars of electrical tape wrapped around the headstock like EVH's, but I digress...

Anyway, I have it wired so that it goes in series mode when the knob is pulled up because I prefer the single-coil sound. I guess they sound okay, but if I had to describe the carvin in one word i'd say "uninspiring," and the SD pickup has a twangy sound that I like but it has no "juice," for lack of another word. Too brittle? The pickup is wound at 13K or so.

I changed my mind (and I also ran out of the funds) to put those Steven Kersting pickups in like I originally had in mind. What I'm going to do now is take out a set of Fralin Strat pickups for the aforementioned strat that I don't use anymore. I built a tele a couple of years back and since then the strat's been collecting dust. I had him wind the bridge with one of those plates on the bottom to make it sound as close to a tele as I could, which is what I want. I'll put 3 on/off slider switches where the mustang ones would usually go. I don't have a mortising bit attachment for my drill press so I'll have to make those square holes by hand and I'm not looking forward to doing it which is why I haven't started it yet.

I'm also thinking of routing the bridge out and sticking a mustang bridge assembly on because I'm not really a fan of strat bridges.

I might for kicks make an extra pickguard and route a space for a fourth single-coil and stick that uninspiring carvin or a pointy '80's ibanez SC in there (I'm serious, it sounds pretty cool...) Maybe I'm chasing windmills but I want to get a midrangey rawkin' and a twangy sound out of the same guitar (hey, what about pedals?)

Anyway, here is a picture of the tele I built. Well, I didn't build the neck.

that looks really cool - though i did prefer the original pearl pickguard!

Definitely gonna take this on as my next guitar project, as i have a ton of spare pickups, and adding an additional single-coil just means cutting a new hole in the scratchplate!

one thing im curious about - any idea if the Cyclone pots are rated 250k or 500k? cos with 1 humbucker and 2 jag pickups id want at least 500k, maybe even 1meg
