the only thing I can think of (outside of being burned with actual heat) is that a spiral cord has something in the rubber that's caustic to nitro...which may sound ridiculous, but I can't think of anything else. Besides, the only thing in a studio to get hot enough to actually burn a guitar is a tube amp, but I can't imagine that being the cause...
