aesthetic that was on ebay a few months ago...the seller claimed that the guitar was on top on a "telephone style" guitar cable in the case for an extened period of time causing the marks on the back of the guitar, don't know how accurate this maybe, but that was the claim...i see it being possible in some kind of atmosphere such as a warm attic maybe???

Gavin It's perfectly reasonable, in fact I'd say it's pretty much the only explanation for both guitars. Someone leaves the guitar in a hardcase under the bed or whatever for 5yrs (at least, we're talking aboot a giutar that's 40yrs old and looks nearly new), the rubber in the cord reacts with the nitro finish and there you have your wierd marks.
paul_ guitar stands with foam are the way to go. rubber slowly kills nitro, i don't know about the surgical tubing type, anyone know for sure?

MoreCowbell Another reason to keep your guitars in a case. Especially since your state may fall off into the ocean with the next quake.
aesthetic but really what kind of guitar stand is going to leave marks like that??...being in that good of condition and its a 65...it had to be in the case for years
Tex-Czech You guys ever heard of the CBS bodyguards actually causing wear instead of protecting it from belt rash...I really know without a doubt that was it, but ya know..You guys every had one of those guards for your jags, jazz ,or stangs?
Rick they were just covers for the back. and they had foam inserts to cussion it to the body. hence the foam reacted with the nitro and ate it
johnniespring oh. i knew what they were, but i didn't realise they damaged the finish. haha. that's stupid.
