Its a few days since the last post on this, but I am going to add my bit.
In my opinion if your'e going to take one guitar, make it the strat with a coil tapped humbucker at the bridge, you will have all the tonal posibilities at your fingertips.
I am a lover of matching headstocks as well, so go for it, I also saw a Fender strat in a shop a few days ago with body binding, it made the boring old strat look like another beast, made a hell of a difference, I nearly bought it on looks alone.
