Also, if anyone was wondering, i DID go to guitar center after i called and explained that i was looking for the new made in mexico classic players jaguar with a jag tremelo and they said it was there. it wasn't, same ol' black and crome stoptail hh b.s.

further disappointment, as i talked to they guy about jag's and made sure i told them the old hh won't work as i want the trem and the color scheme is goofy, just to clarify i wouldn't be pawned off anything just because it said jaguar on it, and no, the old HH's and/or jagmaster wouldnt work. stupid stoptails and strat bridges.

im temped to just by a jagmaster and put a mustang or duo sonic bridge on it.. would that work? that could actually be pretty sweet.

gave 'em my number to call the minute either new jag gets there. dirty, lying guitar center swine.

which reminds me, i need to give my number to c.a. house and the other local stores, should they ever get one in store.

Just thought you might like to know that I just bought one of these a few days ago. This is actually the only Jaguar I've ever played, besides the black-and-chrome stoptail HH, so I don't have much to compare it to. I had a MIM Tele, which I bought when I was still somewhat of a beginner to guitars and really didn't know what kind of sound I wanted. Turns out that a Tele was probably exactly the opposite of my ideal guitar, so I finally decided to upgrade. Anyway my opinion so far is that it's a great little guitar. The craftsmanship is nothing to write my mother about, which I guess is expected for a MIM, but damn is it pretty. I never really liked someone calling a guitar "versatile," but this is exactly that. The controls are such that you can have almost any combination of the two humbuckers or two single-coils. Not only can you split the humbuckers on each pickup, but you can turn down the volume on half of each humbucker to create a blend of humbucker-single coil pickups. For someone who plays mostly clean blues, but also a bit of Neil Young-style trebly distortion every now and then, it's a great guitar for all these sound options. You guys may have known all this, but I basically took a leap of faith in buying it, intending to return or exchange it if I wasn't happy with it, so I was pleasantly surprised to figure out all the controls. I'm still getting used to the shorter scale, and in fact I'm still considering exchanging it back to GC for a Jazzmaster solely for this reason, but overall I'm pleased with it. It may not be a guitar for Jag purists, but I think it's a nice little addition to the Jaguar family. The killswitch is pretty unnecessary though...

I agree with that. they should have just sold them for about $600. Maybe around $650 for the sunburst.

how does the rythm circuit work? does it bypass vol an tone when engaged?

there is no rhythm circuit. based on what it does i cant imagine it bypasses the vol. & tone. that would be a stupid feature because you still want volume control. unlike the normal rhythm circuit it doesnt have volume and tone knobs, it has coil splits

as far as i can tell from the ole tap-a-screwdriver-on-the-pickup trick, the three switches on the bottom horn are as follows: 1) up=neck and bridge pickups on, down=just bridge pickup on; 2) bridge pickup on/off; 3) no idea, but affects the tone in some fashion for both pickups. i know this doesn't make much sense, but i guess fender wanted to stay faithful to the old control configuration, at least aesthetically. the two black dials on the bottom horn are master volume and tone. on the top horn is the master kill switch and the black turn-controls, each of which function as a volume for HALF of each humbucker...so, if you turn down the left one to about 50%, then you have full volume on one half of the neck pickup and 50% on the other. turn it down all the way and you have a single coil for the neck pickup. that's a really nice feature. they probably could have eliminated those three switches on the bottom horn, though, if favor of a three-postion switch like a les paul or SG.

i didnt really get that. so the first two switches of the lead circuit are NOT on offs? also the pickups could be a bit microphonic, which is why when one pickup is off and you tap it, even with something not magnetic, itll make a noise

Do any of you know what the pickups are supposed to be like? They are a fender humbuckers right? I mean I was VERY VERY VERY dissapointed by the sound and output of the "dragster" pickups that came in the Black HH. I would love to get one of these in sunburst BUT, I dont want topay $850 for a guitar with no case, and it might need replacement pickups.

theyre enforcers, i think the same ones on the tele HH, cant speak to how they sound. not dragsters, you could find out on the fender site.

well, i'm no jaguar expert, so take everything i say with a grain of salt... but i checked again this morning, and yes, they are just on/offs--a much easier way to say what i said before. also, the pickups are a bit microphonic, but you can still tell when one is turned off, or when you dial down the humbucker to convert it to a single coil. the third switch sounds like it's a basscut...?

and someone correct me if i'm wrong, but there is no lead/rhythm circuit distinction.

while we're on the subject, can someone please explain how the lead/rhythm circuit function works? what are the controls on a normal/vintage jaguar? thanks in advance.

check fender or musician's friend, or whatever for that. so can you try the guitar with the rythm switch engaged, so the splits are on, and tell us if the vol/tone controlls work? and also the pickup switches

not sure what you mean as there is no rhythm switch. if you're asking whether the vol/tone dials work when the roller controls are turned down to split the coils, then the answer is yes. and the pickup and basscut switches work too.

are you playing clean or very very dirty when you engage the bass cut? cuz its supposed to be a kill, but you can get sound out of a guitar with the pickups off if youre playing extremely dirty. I hope its a basscut.

i don't think we're on the same page. the kill switch is on the top horn next to the two rollers. the basscut is the third switch on the bottom horn. and i'm playing clean.
