If you don't use the tremelo, and you use heavy gauge strings, then that's the mod to do in my book. It's totally reversible.
It's the same kind of thing with strats, i know that i could add extra springs and tighter the screw, but i'd rather jam something in there and stop it dead!
When i did that to my jagstang, it was about 97/98, there were probably 10 guys here who had modded theirs, and most of them were just humbucker replacements. It was a mod that did exactly what i wanted it to do, the tuning stability was flawless, it was totally reversible, it cost me nothing, and the only added feature to the guitars looks were two small black plastic washers under the tailpiece.
