DS-2 Foot Question

I want to buy a DS-2 soon but I've been wondering, how come some places like eBay say it has a connector port for hands-free activation? I thought the thing was a pedal in the first place that you can press with your foot, as that's essential for me.

This pedal has two modes, turbo and usual, and you can switch between them using the farthest knob on the right, but you can plug in additional footswitch into the remote jack to do it. Also I have a Boss Dual Overdrive, and it also has two modes, but it also has a mode when you can use the pedal itself to change them, i wish they done the same feature on ds2 aswell.

So I can still activate distortion with my foot, as long as I set the mode by hand in between songs?

No.

If you don't buy the extra switch, you'll have to switch between which distortion mode you require with your hand, then pressing the pedal turns it on.

With the switch, you can do the above, then click the switch to turn on mode 2.

Yep. Just switch them whent you're not playing, and the pedal itself does only on-off thing. Btw, making the footswitch yourself shouldn't be that hard.

Lead (pedal is on/off)

Crunch (pedal is on/off)

Both (pedal is Lead/Crunch)

I usually leave it on Lead although went back to Crunch for the first time in about 10 years last night.

Yeah, and the LED turns from green to red when you switch to lead. I wish they had the same interface on DS2

But for playing most Nirvana songs, will I be able to just press the DS-2 with my foot and choose different modes in between songs? I'm not sure if Kurt used different modes in the same song, but I wouldn't know what they are anyhow.

Yeah, you should be ok. Just take your time playing around with all the knobs and you'll find your sound.

I read somewhere that live he had it on 'turbo' mode with distortion maxed. In the studio he uses the tech21 sans amp and a RAT for a lot of the distortion on In utero; theres only a couple of songs where I can really hear the DS-2s mark on that album, maybe scentless aprentice?

Kurt didnt switch modes so dont worry and the second mode sounds really crappy, leave it on Mode one and play with the knobs and you should get the Kurt tone somewhat. Please remember that Kurt used a Tech 21 Sansamp live also which is expensive and the model Kurt had is out of production, Not to mention he had a Mesa Boogie Studio Preamp and 6 Marshall cabinets loaded with Celestion Vintage 30's...Much more of a #### rock setup then most grunge kids imagine 😆

Me. I want to be able to play Nirvana songs and have them sound as close as I can to the real thing.

i care, but not as much as i did a couple months/years ago. i dont even listen to nirvana that much anymore. i like bad brains sublime bob marley and eminem(yes i said it) better.

Worry about being able to play the songs at full speed, and on time before you go tone hunting.

There are millions of idiots in the world who think that if you buy the same equipment as someone else, you'll immediately sound like them, bollocks.

I've watched the youtube covers, i can kick 95% of those Cobain wannabes asses for one reason, i'm 27 and i practised, i don't have one piece of equipment that is similar to Cobain, but my guitar sounds better than theirs because i know how to set it up, and i know how to dial in tones using the EQ.

Practice makes perfect, not equipment makes perfect.
