I wired the guitar last night.

It works and sounds good, I haven't tested it through a loud speaker yet.

I need some help.

First of all I did a good job of wiring this, there is no hum and all the switches work etc.

But, when I turn the volume down, it does not go all the way down, the volume does not cut out.

Has it got something to do with the capacitor?

it has mini 250k pots and a .05 cap, so there shouldn't be any problem right?

I ruled out the possibility that it's the capacitor causing the problem, as I disconnected it and the volume still wouldn't go down.

I copied the wiring exactly off my jag-stang (but I used 250k pots instead of 500k). Are the phase switches wired the same or are they different to accomidate the humbucker??

Oh yeah and the capacitor i used was a .047 mfd orange drop.

Sounds like the pot to me if it isnt going down all the way

The pot is always getting me down, he he.

hmm, maybe i should try out a different potentiometer to see if that's the problem.

This may sound like a dumb question, but did you get a linear pot or logorithmic (audio). Linears increase/deecrease at a constant value, where audio use "curve" based on a logorithmic set of values. The linear may not always "zero out" and could be your problem.

It wouldn't be the taper of the pot. A linear turned all the way down will be a straight shunt to ground the same as an audio.

I've never seen a problem like this. Without seeing exactly how you have it wired, its impossible to make any suggestions other than either the pot is bad or the wiring is.

Off topic question, did your JS come stock with the 500K pots? 😕

They all come with 500k pots don't they?

Anyway, I compared both Jag-stang and mustang diagrams, and there is a difference. The second phase switch is wired differently. I corrected mine to the mustang design, but holy shyte the volume still won't reach zero.

My Jagstang has 250K

Oh wait , yeah my jag-stang pots are 250k, but it still doesn't explain my problem.

vintage stangs came with 250k, like strats did

I did, it's not the pot.

hmm, i'll post some close up photos soon, to see if anyone can figure it out.

I fixed it, i'm not sure what was wrong with it.

I just earthed it more securily.

Don't ever buy alpha brand pots, i don't trust them.

Anyway, the guitar sounds bloody amazing. I can't wait to pump it through a bigger amp. I'm now officially converted to single coils! so much clarity.
