yeah American doesnt refer to just fender Mesa is made in the states in California as is Fender (who really shouldnt be classified as American anymore as they arent made here but then again what is 😆 ) Yeah the "British" tone of Vox and Marshall is hot rodded fenders but that doesn't make there tone similar, I'd defiantly choice the crunch of a brit amp over many american ones,But American amps are also great not British amp can match American made amps clean tones.

i am well aware of where both companies are made, but ive found that when people say 'california' sound they are generally refering to mesas or sometimes tweeds, and when they say 'american' they are referring to fender.

adding this here instead of a new thread, i went into a pawn shoop downtown and found a fender deville 2x12 for 500$. what do you think of the amp and the price?

nothing great, certainly not bad. id start a new thread. make a note of every nick on the thing and try to talk him down another 50 or 100

yea, do. Only buy it if you intend on playing it, that price isnt one of those pawn shop deals where you can turn it right around for a 30% profit or something.

it would most likely become my main amp, definately dont plan on selling it

As far as the Mesa MkII is concerned I have a StudioPre which I run into a 50-50 power (i believe that the studiopre is similar to a MkII+) and have found that my rhythm channel's volume and master increase the gain when my drive channel is on. By using those in conjunction with the lead drive and lead master I can get a variety of musical/usable tones.

All I'm saying is the Boogie is collectible (& sentimental); so make sure yr really willing to part with it. GAS has lead me to do some stupid things in retrospect...

id worry more about sound quality than collectability. then again, you raise a good point. if you want an ad30, and have the cash, you can get one that day. not so with the mkii, although they are on ebay fairly frequently.

rectos equal crap, at least from what ive heard on youtube. might as well be an mg as far as the super-high gain sounds are concerned.

rectos FTL seeing all the br00tal HxC bands in my area you Mesa Triple Rectifiers made me really despise Mesa, but I have played on many other Mesa models and really liked it! The first Mesa I ever played was a Mark IV, when I ordered my Gibson Jimmy Page Custom Shop the Manager of Guitar Center took me into his office and gave me the guitar and was like I want you to try it out on my favorite amp and he had his Mark IV the sound was unreal!

I consider the Mark series more of a Boogie and less of a Mesa.

the Boogie name comes from one of the first amp customers (Santana) saying the amp really Boogied. Not sure where Mesa comes into the picture.

don't know where the mesa comes from either..the story above is true...I think a little more about is as follows

Randall Smith used to modify the Fender Princeton. That is the amp to which Carlos made the famous statement. "Man that little thing really Boogies". Worried that Fender would catch on to so many transformers being sold to one location he started is own company.

Mesa might come from Costa Mesa which is a few miles from Los Angeles in California, of course it could be something else just a theory.

The MESA name came about through Smith's other job, rebuilding Mercedes engines and repairing houses. He needed an 'official' sounding name through which to buy Mercedes parts and building supplies. The name chosen was MESA Engineering because it was seemingly familiar with a professional air. It was originally capitalized but has been written as Mesa in recent years.
