jaguar rhythm circuit not working

is this a common problem? ill post pictures soon. basically when i turn the rhythm circuit on, there is no output. also with the lead circuit and all my pickups off, there is a small amount of output, why is that?

i have a black jaguar hh that i just bought on ebay. like i said ill post pictures soon. oh yeah and ill post a picture of this but when i bought it there was some sort of like metal circular lead thing just hanging so i put it between the silve plate and the actual switch (where the screw goes). is it supposed to go there? if anyone has pics or can direct me to pics of the wiring that would be great.

like i said ill post pics in a few days or so to explain what i mean. i dont know what its called but i think it might just be grounding it.

its definitely not that. and on the lead circuit w/pickups off, you will get some signal because leo fender was electronically challenged. not saying he didnt make great guitars, just saying some of his electronical work makes me scratch my head.

well im still pretty sure the lug was just to ground it but thanks for the info about leo fender lol. i think i found the problem, i just dont know how to fix it. there is a black wire that is not connected to anything! when i touch it to certain components, the circuit works and i get sound. also when its not touching anything the neck pickup doesnt work at all. here is the lug or whatever that wasnt connected to anything:

so when its grounded, the neck pickup works?

nope. there's a black lead connected to the lug, and when that's touching pretty much anything it works, albeit it noisily.

I think the lug is the ground, but can't really see where hte black lead comes from. There is a Jaguar wiring diagram on the seympour duncan site which may help you. I also have an HH Special, and if I get the time I will post a photo of the wiring. The colours differ on the seymour duncan diagram, but you should be able to figure out what should go where.

maybe i should be able to figure it out but i can't. the differences in color make everything really freaking confusing.

well i know it has to be connected to one of the roller pots, the black ones, so does anyone know which lead? i'm pretty sure i know which pot since its coming from the rhythm pot. anyone know a correct wiring schematic?

ok i have determined both wiring diagrams i have seen are not even close to the guitar i have (jaguar hh black/chrome) and i asked fender for a wiring diagram.

you have determined incorrectly, fender will link you to a regular jag diagram.

how did you come to that conclusion? perhaps that way i worded my sentence was ambiguous. i meant i've seen two jaguar diagrams online which were both not the same as my guitar SO i emailed fender for the jaguar hh diagram. they gave it to me this morning and it is indeed exactly the same as my guitar, colors and connections. something is weird though with my guitar. i think the person from whom i bought it messed something up because they put one black wire in the wrong spot and the lug was soldered to something else. i'm pretty sure the diagram's not online anywhere, so if anyone wants it just pm me. if i could upload it to someplace tell me, and i will.

the colors might not be the same but the electronics are, go to photobucket, if its an image, im not sure if its a pdf...

no! the electronics are NOT the same. do you have two jaguars and have examined both of their electronics? just look at two diagrams for two different jaguars and see that they are NOT the same. and yes it's a pdf, i obviously know about photobucket since i have links to it at the top of the page.

... ok, i have opened up my jag, and examined many jag schematics. email me the one fender gave you, ill pm you my email. the pickup selections are the same, the pots are the same, the resistance-based tone control and resistance varying volume control are the same, and the rythm circuit is the same, the only possible part which could be different is the switch. but why would fender redesign a switch to do the same thing?

they might have grounded a few things differently, but electronically, i am almost sure it is the same.

well i don't know a lot about guitar electronics but the diagrams ive seen dont show the same thing they may DO the same thing. one difference i see is that out of the neck pickup comes one wire with two wires inside that connect to different parts. on the diagram for the 62 reissue, there is one wire coming out of each end on the neck pickup.

... no you dont know much about electronics, because if you did you would know that where the wires come out has nothing to do with the way it is wired, or even how it is wired (ie layout vs result)

well here's the thing. several different colored wires are coming out into the switching part. i can't tell which wires are from which pickup. how am i supposed to? the wires are soldered in the wrong spot. a diagram with different colors tells me nothing because i cant see which wire is coming out of which pickup unless i unscrew them which is a pain because i have to take the strings off and what not. but, i totally understand that what is actually happening is the same in this jaguar and others, i just don't have enough experience to just know where each wire should go. so when one wire with two wires inside is coming from some hole in my guitar and on the diagram i see there are two separate wires, its impossible for me to tell which pickup its coming from. same with the pickup switches, but that's easy to unscrew and look at. seriously i don't know what you are getting at. i think even someone like you would've greatly benefited from the exact wiring of the guitar to fix it. and when i said wiring was different i meant layout, not result. result doesn't really tell me personally anything.
