Your loose wire is the ground connection for your controls, it should be attached to the volume pot (closer one to the switch) same lug that the capacitor is soldered to, and then go to ground, i.e. on the lug on the back of your control plate, which it's already connected to, yes...?

i think you are right, but i already fixed it before i read your post. i just followed the diagram. basically the guy who had it before me sucked at soldering and was using the wrong diagram so he screwed everything up.

This may be a possible solution. My Jag's rhythm circuit didn't work. and I found that the rhythm pickup had been lowered so much it was grounding out against the shielding. I raised it and it worked fine. It got cold and contracted and grounded out again. I raised it a bit more and it's worked since. You also have to be careful to insulate any metal PIO capacitors you might switch out, since covers are also metal it can create unintended circuits even though the wiring may be correct.
