Most guitar companies have stopped expanding their horizons. FMIC, Gibson USA, and the other big names all do the same darned thing, build what is popular and what will sell the most. A few Alt-Rock/Indie guys from the 1990's onward are not in the majority, a bunk of cranky emo kids are the last time I checked, and they all want a guitar just like Tom Delonge.
All "labels" for guitars are a stupid marketing tool. Surf Guitar, Jazz Box, Student Guitar, Metal Guitar, Punk Guitar, Legend Series, Signature Series, Collectable Series, Gothic Series, Limited Editions.......feh, it's all bull####....a guitar is a guitar is a guitar is a guitar. Nothing makes me laugh more than Daisy Rock and their "Girl Guitars" or Harmony and their "Beginner" guitars....who thinks they have the right to tell ME what I should and should not play.
My foremost rule in life, among many actually, is NEVER ever ever ever ever trust anyone dressed up or wearing a suit. They're either trying to #### you or sell you something...and sometimes even both. When it comes to guitars, it is kind of fun to make the staff cry for mercy while I buy that "$150.00 piece of ####", knowing the whole time I can make it kick some serious sonic butt, so I guess there's some fun in the whole marketing thing.
