I'll go first... I want a Jaguar pickup humbucker... That way, you can give a standard Jaguar a HB, and with coiltap, still get that distinctive Jaguar tone... I think its a far better compromise than having to eliminate the original sound...

Can't afford it... Truth be told, the only guitar (I have 3 basses, one is in pieces) I have is a Domino Baron 3-pickup... I'm trying to sell it for 150 and pick up a Jagmaster or a Cyclone... If I get a Jagmaster, I'm gonna cut a new pickguard out of aluminum and hook it up with an angled single coil in neck position... I can't afford anything else 😛 ...

Whatever I can get my hands on... I have a Strat pickup lying around, but I want something kind of special... But inconspicuous, ya know? I might be able to get my hands on a Jaguar pickup (WANT) but I'm not getting my hopes up...

i know what you mean, something with character but subtle. if you did get a jag pup would you mount it in the pickgaurd like strat style?

I was experiementing with guitar designs, and the Jag-Stang looks fricking amazing when you flip it upside down [uNRELATED TO TOPIC] but yeah, it doesn't look I'll be getting a Jagmaster any time soon just yet anyway...

doesnt exist, as lond as were talking about the originals. they just wound till the bobbins were full, there are a million different specs for them.

Lots of guys at the Seymour Duncan forums change out magnets in their pickups, you should ask them for some advice on this one.

Alnico 2's have pretty squishy bass response and pronounced mids, and JBs already have a slight mid spike in the upper mid range, so it might make them sound worse. I hear some guys put Alnico 4 magnets in their JBs and switch to 250k pots to help eliminate this problem.

i want pickups like what the fender 3 on a sides pretend to be, 6 different coils, so that you can control treble/bass strings seperately.

also, switching magnets with the flip of a switch. dont scoff. rails/polepieces, but instead of being connected directly to the magnet, the magnet is run to a switch, so you can switch between ceramic, alnico 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. obviously not all in one guitar, but... why not?

also, when i was thinking about that, i thought why not connect one magnet to 3 rails?

is the pickup wire soldered to the magnet?

No, the wire just connects to either end of the wire wrapped around the coil(s). The magnet/ polepieces just sit in the middle of it all.

yeah I know the best replicas are made by a mysterious bloke named "over the pound guy" i've seen his work on another guitar forum and from what I heard they sound exactly like originals but they cost something like 500usd so I won't be getting any.

any handwound paf is close enough in my opinion, unless you want it to be aged/relic'd... fralin,lollar,smit's parts, SD, etc... mismatched coils are important, make sure you get one of those.

unless you have frequently played on a guitar with original pafs, theres no point getting anal about it. also, dont assume that a 50's paf is the be all, end all of pickups. for instance, they werent wax potted, so an accurate replica will scream like a pig through your orange...

as for aged magnets, why not just go alnico 4 or 3?
