Can some give me the measurement from the 12th fret to the bridge high E on a standard series squier jagmaster? I just got one of these necks to put on my duo & I need to know where to place the bridge. I know it should be 12" but if the neck is conversion doesn't this change? If I'm mistaken I appologize. Right now its 12 & 3/8 inchs from 12 to bridge on my mim duo.

also if anyone can explain conversion necks to me that'd be great. I've looked all over here & the net & I'm still confused.

I just bought a jagmaster on ebay, to use the neck on my duo and trade off the body, based on your previous post saying that the 12th was 12"'s from the bridge... didn't think about it being a conversion neck. I hope my bridge doesn't have to move... it's string through now so I can't really change it's position terribly much. A few cm at most.

Anxiously anticipating a response to this one as well. That'll teach me not to do more research before I let my GMS get the best of me.

I was told here that it will work & then after getting it & asking about redrilling the neck screws Aug(who I trust deeply) saod it "may" be a conversion neck.

I'm hoping that if it is a conversion that maybe its off by 3/8 inch so that I can just cover the gap in the neck pocket with a custom pickguard I can make myself. If it is then the trade off will be that the neck doesn't need to be redrilled.

I appologize, I was simply repeating what I heard here too. It may still work tho so we'll both just have to wait for an answer.

No reason to apologize, my fault for not investigating further. Here's hoping that after a redrill it's a simple bolt on and saddle adjustment.

Otherwise looks like I may be trying to pawn off a jagmaster in the trade forum. lol.

As for if it's a conversion neck, I can't answer that, as I don't know exactly what a conversion neck is.

Its just a neck designed so that you have the pocket-to-bridge space the size of a strat, and there for a weirdly sized neck.

I knew I was something to do with turning a full-scale guitar into a short scale, but I didn't exactly know the maths of it.

in that case your intonation is probably #### the high e should be 12" or slightly over, right? id measure, but my intonation is ####ed as well

I think I'm just going to have it redrilled & take the risk...it will take me a few days but I'll post & let you know how it goes when its done.

I'm still totally lost about comp necks tho...I mean if it measures 12" on the jagmaster then it should work, right? Or is that the comp? That the frets are designed to work w/ a dif scale from 12th to bridge?

I just read every book at borders on guitar set up/repair & they don't say anything about this so I'm still confused. I just hope this neck works cause I really like it & really REALLY want this project to get going.

if its 12 inches to the bridge from the 12th fret youre fine assuming that theres still room to push the saddles back a bit on the bass strings, otherwise itll be sharp. that being said, tons of guitars are slightly sharp, 2 of my favorite guitars falling into that category 😢

Yeah, people just had me freakin' out that it might not work because it was a 24" scale neck from a guitar that's body is made for a 25.5" scale neck. I broke one of my rules a went to talk to the dill weeds at my local fender shop here in town after realizing that I'm going to need then to drill the neck anyways. I talked to the repair guy who maybe a major tool but also a great tech. He said that if it measures 12 & 12 then it should work. He claims that all shorter scale necks have harder times intonating properly but that it should work out fine.

I'll take it in monday & see what he says after actually seeing the body/neck combo & let you all know.

Nice... I'm anxiously awaiting my Jagmaster as we speak.

If I can't trade/sell the body off, I may get a strat neck for it and make a custom jazzmaster.

Trav, you are one observant mofo, and I mean that !!!

I took another look, and apologies to ModNuB, but I actually measured from the 11th fret yeasterday. I measures again, and Trav is right, it is colser to 12". In fact, I'm measuring about 11.9"

I did not read all of this thread, but I CAN confirm that that neck IS a conversion neck on the newer Jagmasters. I've swapped it out with a Warmoth on my Jagmaster (and back) twice to use a locking nut (to diagnose a tuning problem and later to use a locking trem).

I have youtube vids of the guitar being played with the original neck and the non-conversion 25.5" scale strat neck with a locking nut to confirm this.

If the measurements from the 12th to the bridge are the same on both guitars everything should work correctly right?

How can a neck not work if all the distances are the same on both guitars? I'm not trying to argue I just don't understand how a conversion neck works. How does it "convert"?

Measure from the bridge to the end of the fret board. On 25.5" scale guitar's it's gonna be further than on 24" guitars. So instead of making a new body for the Jagmaster (after previously having 25.5") they designed a neck which took into account the further distance between the bridge and end of fretboard (i.e. it'll probably have less frets or something...). That's basically what a conversion neck is.

Frets are closer together, too, that's what makes it easier to play.

Compared to a Tele and thinking purely about neck length. Measuring from nut to 21st fret (both guitars have 21 frets) the Tele is 18", whereas the Jagmaster is 17.1", so the "playing area" (I don't know the term) of the neck is almost a full inch shorter, whith the same amount of frets.

I still don't understand completely how it works either. What matters is that it does work.

i think cy's explanation is rather good, a conversion neck and a standard 25.5" neck are both built for the same 'negative' length (the rest of the scale) between them and the bridge. usually, both would be rather built with a similar ('positive') length of the neck in mind. now the jagmaster neck has to compensate for being further from the bridge than a jaguar neck, and thus must be shorter (than the 22 fret jaguar neck) to achieve the same overall scale length.

or so i think ... but just stick with the above definition, don't know if the rest is helpful at all.
