Well, aside from the obvious, and going toward specifics...
Nikki, She and I are sort of like SRV & his #1 Strat/First Wife. If I have to pick only one guitar for any musical scenario, I can use this one and get most of the sounds I need, plus there's a bit of sentimentality there. The Jaguar often tags along as the second half of the main duo, but if it's just a jam situation, sometimes I only bring this one since I hardly have any problems with it (or any of the Fenders I have for that matter).
- Bridge Pickup full out with distortion = Pure Shred Machine
- Bridge Pickup clean full out = Nice light blues/pre-70's rock overdrive
- Bridge Pickup backed off just a few hairs Distorted = More biting sound
- Bridge Pickup backed off just a few hairs clean = Tele-like Twang, good for surf or country
- Both Pickups Clean = Strat Middle+Bridge combo-like tone with some Jaguar/Mustang both Pickups on type overtones to it not present on a strat
- Both Pickups on Distorted = Works well for Black Sabbath-like sounds,
- Neck Pickup Clean = Acoustic Guitar-like sound
- Neck Pickup Distorted = can get some pretty good blues and hendrix-like tones with the volume backed off, or cranked full out and I can get really good vai-like sounds. With the tone all the way down I can get some very Eric-Clapton Cream era type tones, it just all depends on what amp I'm using, and how I dial it in.
To top it off, I have the behind the bridge string rake thing for Running With the Devil (most people need a Gibson to do that), full whammy bar support (dive-bombs, Dimebag-type squeals, light Surf dips, pretty much anything), plus I never get tired on that neck.
As for picks, amps, effects, I've made due on almost anything given it has 2 channels. I think the only time I got stuck was using a Fender Twin the other night, I should have brough my distortion pedal for that amp, it would have sounded great, but I had my bugera and used the speakers in the Fender as a cab, made the Bugera sound more like a Fender amp....which was rather cool, never knew the speakers made such a difference.
