Well, I guess it's all about personal taste.

I find the G&L Legacy and S-500 or other strat types very appealing.

G&L is definitely one of my favorite guitar. My number one is Tom Anderson.

and besides, guitar's quality isn't decided by its look 😉

True but suppose 2 guitars sounded exactly the same would you rather have a BC Rich Warlock style body or a Strat style body?

I'd take the strat, because whether it's a warlock or not it will sound the same.

Thanks for the heads up - I hadn't taken that into account. I'm seeing varying measurements on Jaguar/Jazzy body thickness, for example my '98 CIJ Jag is 1.75" thick, or 44.45mm which would be too thick for a mustang this build I think. However I'm seeing people telling of vintage Jazzy thicknesses of 42mm (1.65"), and even some with a reported 41.25mm (1.625") body depth. Can anyone shed some light on this?

My Jaguar trem cavity meaures 1.375" or 35mm deep, so a 1.5" body would be out the question. The 42mm or 41.25mm thickness might be the right compromise. I'll need to get a tremolo cavity measurement for one of these models though.

For those of you who are interested here's a mockup template or basic design I can give to a luthier that I made from blueprints and schematic of Jazzys, Strats and Stangs. By using the neck pocket as a counter point I've been able to put everything to a pretty accurate scale...

*Mustang body, electronics and scratchplate

*Jazzmaster bridge and tremolo

*Stratocaster neck and pickups (positioned exactly as a strat)

All of this is at a 25.5" scale length and more or less correct of where everthing will be positioned.

One problem I can forsee is whether the tremolo will overlap the arm contour. Any guesstimates?

why jazzy bridge? some people change them to mustang bridges.. so why not just have one of em?

I said jazzy bridge more to show it's placement on the guitar in relation to scale length and trem. Forgot to mention but it will have a stang bridge, or rather a warmoth modified bridge to fit the 9.5" strat neck. I might look at other options too like a roller bridge 😀

Where is the pickup selector going to live?

There's going to be a 6-way rotary instead of the input jack - possibly arranged so the rotary is at the top of the control plate. The input itself will be side mounted like a Telecaster.

Yeah, good way to do it. What will position 6 be? All 3, or bridge and neck?

Bridge and neck. I've been looking into having all 3 at once with a push/pull volume knob for one of the pickups but it could be biting off more than I can chew.

I've found that in planning mods. Sometimes you just have to scale back a bit to what is practical.

I'm sure most people would love 3 splittable humbuckers, 7-way selector switches, phase switching, tone bypass, and so on, but gotta keep it real sometimes.

Good luck with it. It's gonna be sweet when it all comes together.

i wonder though, does the jag tremolo actually hit the bottom of the cavity when you use it? i actually don't know because ive never owned one... but if it doesn't, you might be able to pull it off with a cavity that isn't so deep, perhaps?

anyways, when you do do this, let me know exactly how deep you need the cavity to be; I'm still curious if there's any way in hell i can pull this off with my 4cm musicmaster body. I'm thinking if all else fails i can elevate the trem on the surface of the body somehow.
