but the foam does the job it is intended to do. if you have the clearance above the 17th fret at 2mm min, 3mm max, and the clearance between the top of the polepiece and the bottom of the strings (when fretted at the last) at 2mm+ then there's no way you're going to run out of foam. you've clearly got the action unnecessarily high or the poles too close to the strings. there's nothing wrong with the design at all. many other guitars use foam

My action is high. Probably unecessarily high. But thats how I like it, and half the time I need it or it cuts out when bending at the higher frets.

Sounds like you need your frets looked at / need some new strings / truss rod adjusted.

For a little while, my Strat would choke the note when I bent the G up at the 14th fret, but ONLY in that once fret or string, a re-string got rid of it. That was weird, the strings weren't even remotely old.

that's fair jump up in gauge and a lot more tension on the neck, it probably needs a quarter turn or possibly a fret dress.

Yeah, but the problem with my old Jag was that the guy who owned it before me had the Neck p/up really low and had squashed the foam, so when I tried to raise it, it went nowhere. So I had to stick some more foam in there.

i can understand that. the type of foam used does tend to squash, and stay that way, if the pressure is kept on for a great deal of time. the mute foam for example; if i leave the mute on, and put the guitar in its case for a long period, the foam gets grooves in it from where the strings were all that time. then they slowly go back to their original form.

Well i cut off a section of knee-pad out of my snickers work trousers to compensate lost height with the foam when i installed that Lace Sensor, its as simple as that. I suppose even a piece of polysterene would do the trick.

I used some foam rubber from a plug protector thingy that came on the plug for my TV.

I dunno, my Jaguar has harmonics leaping off the fretboard practically....

I bought mine modified with Cool Rails, still sounds like a Jaguar with that snarly Jaguar twang nothing else gets, though with more output than SJAG-1s, and less than SJAG-2s. I also have 500K pots in mine for some odd reason.
