Fuzz pedals?

The Dunlop JImi Hendrix Fuzzface kicks all kinds of butt. I think you actually might like it Trav cuz you can definitely do more than Hendrix with it. They're relatively cheap too, I got mine for $149 new so you might be able to find one used for like $100. They are just really kick butt fuzz pedals except for the fact that they don't have a ton of output (I usually can achieve unity gain at around noon or slightly past it). They are very volume responsive too so you can clean it up by turning down the volume on your guitar. Also right now I'm really interested in the Fender Blender Fuzz cuz they look sick and the reissues are pretty cheap too (not sure if this is what ur after though).

(PS sorry if this post was a bit of a garbled mess, my stupid freaking cat won't shut up and it's so annoying that I can't think in any sort of logical order)

I've used a Big little muff for my fuzzy goodness. It is the best of both worlds, with the NY creaminess but a hint of the russian ballsy-ness

Do you have volume/tone knobs at full all the time? I think it's because jag's have a high-impedance output relative to most guitars. fuzz faces and many other fuzzes drop this down at the input. when guitar pickups are connected to a low-impedance input, it rolls off treble. the volume tone controls on most guitars (strats, etc.) have low-impedance inputs, resulting in less treble than a guitar like a jag. because of this, the change in stepping on a fuzz face is less dramatic with these guitars. so, i'm guessing that you either EQ out some treble with the jag, or simply hear more treble, leaving a vacuum when you step on the fuzz. my suggestion is not to keep the jag volume/tone full up, but to make adjustments at the guitar, and brighten things up at the amp. good luck! by the way, i'd be interested to hear how you resolve this.

They are'nt much different to the Boss HM-2 to be honest. I had one and sold it.

If anyone is looking for seriously ####ed up Fuzz pedals they should check out Devi Ever (Effector 13) or Dwarfcraft Devices. Both run by good people, in fact one used to post here and the other used to post at GC.

I'll look into the HM-2 thx for the tip also Devi Ever is too noisy and unusable in my opinion (unless you're freaking Thurston Moore or Omar Rodriguez-Lopez or someone like that). I've seen some pretty cool Dwarfcraft pedals though.

*EDIT: After taking a second look at both the Fender Blender and the Boss HM-2, it seems that while the HM-2 can cop the Blender's tone pretty well, it lacks some of the ugly craziness of the Blender. The HM-2 also doesn't seem to be as versatile as the Blender. Thx Fran, but I don't think the HM-2 is really what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the comment and the notes about the Jaguar impedance.. It's one of those "imperfections" that make it a special guitar.

I did play with the volume and tone of the guitar, with the pedal's fuzz knob turned all the way up. Rolling them back reduced the gain and brightened the tone, but when I wanted full gain the sound was a bit like an amp with a blanket on it, not fully "opened". I tried to turn the bright up on the amp to compensate, but that made it too bright for the clean playing. I also tried to put an overdrive pedal on the chain, it helped to give more "air" to the sound when mixed to the fuzz, but didn't find a perfect pair yet. Maybe an EQ pedal linked to the fuzz would be a better idea.

But this week I found one of these mixed drive/fuzz pedals, and it feels more usable than the normal fuzz faces because its broader range of tones, it's working better for me. I Think I'll be ok with that for now.

Another solution could be to find a way to change the upper circuit from 1000K to 500k.. and use it for fuzz, but that's another story! 😀

actually, the rythm circuit has a lower impedance, have you messed w/it? i suppose it's already too bassy to brighten things up.
