can anyone tab koolthing by sonic youth in standard please because i have no clue about their tunings and can you tab it with or without a cappo please.

i would say you Need! to have the other tunings.... thats what makes the song sound how it dose.

well thats the only way you are going to be able to play that song.

but tunings not that hard, as long as you have a good guitar setup.

i know but i saw away online to do it with a cappo but i dont have one but hey i figured out antiorgasm on my own and it sounds exactley the same.

You cant play SY tuned in EADGBE, it just wont sound right. Of course you can cobble it together in EADGBE but it sounds like ####.

and i dont know the fingerings for their tunings all i know is drop d and standard tuneings.

Well the tab tells you how to tune to each song, and you can read tab right? therefore you know the "fingerings"! 😁 its just the same as reading any other tab once you have it tuned right.

I dont know what notes I'm playing most of the time either, you dont need to ,its 100% irrelevant. I know which notes (string and fret place not the note name) sound good in which order and thats about it. I know absolutely zero about music theory but that hasn't stopped me writing kick ass song after kick ass song over 15 years of playing guitar.

I'm of the opinion if you dont need it why bother with it.

Just tune to the tuning, do what the tab tells you to do, put your fingers where the tab tells you, its simple.

It doesn't matter what tuning you're in, if the tab has a 5 on the first and second strings and 0's on all other strings you put a finger on the first and second strings in the fith fret and strum all 6 strings, if it has a 9 on the 3rd string and a 8 on the 4th string you put fingers(any fingers that feel comfortable) on them strings in them frets and strum how many times the numbers appear.

EXACTLY the same as normal tab, regardless of the tunings! You dont need to transpose anything!

thank earth, i have been freaking out because i have missed out on a lot of the theory part of playing. but its nice to know that you can still be good with out all the ####.

i do'nt know any musical theroy of guitar only trumpet so i just try to convert.

Unless you want to be a full on metal soloist like Kerry King or a classical player or somthing that involves technical playing of some sort its just not needed IMO.

I've never had a guitar lesson in my life and I managed to become a pretty decent original guitarist that pretty much only plays his own material (I occasionally play the odd song that was written by someone else if I particularly like the song). I didn't know one chord when I bought my first guitar but I worked out what sounded good and what sounded bad quick enough on my own.

Theory has its place in music, but in Punk, Experimental, Alternative, Grunge etc its 100% useless and unnecessary IMO.

i hate music theroy good thing my music is experimental/grunge i can'nt go throught theroy again god after hooooours of reading trumpet sheet music i figured it out but my god is it boring.
