Jagmaster help

Hello, i've dipped in and out of here for years as i've always had a hankering for an offset. Finally getting a project started for my 40th.

Got myself a lovely strat replacement neck (vintage style soft V profile, maple fretboard). I was hoping to put this onto a black or sunburst jagmaster body - obviously the current models are 24" scale so my 25.5 neck will not fit.

So.....i need one of the chinese/indonesian standard series jags (not Vista). Thing is, things seem a bit dry in terms of availability (Ebay etc). I have a bid on a red one (may need a refin due to a chip), but i'd prefer a BLACK one. well i think it has to be black really doesnt it !

Hope i'm not breaking any rules here but if any of you good people know of a black jagmaster (not vista and not the current model) seeking a good home in the UK i would be very grateful. 😁

actually the current models use a 24" conversion neck, which basically means that the body is for 25.5" scale necks but the conversion neck is made of magic so manages to intonate on a body of this sort anyway

so a strat neck should fit the current models just fine

really?? this is great news if thats right (and i did indeed read in here somewhere that this would work) - on a certain other popular guitar forum they were adamant that this wouldnt work. Oh well, very worst scenario would be the luthier having to fill a hole and relocate the bridge.

thank you for the information, very much appreciated. i think i might just go buy a jagmaster. now the question is, black or burst?

if i had one id get it in black then get a tort guard, but as they are stock i prefer the sunburst

erm with the strat trem that the jgmaster has, relocating the bridge would be a bit harder than filling some holes, but im sure that this will work providing the neck will fit in the pocket, which it will as long as you get a neck made for standard strats

yeah maple fretboard on black body+ black parts is sexy, but my neck has a 'honey gloss' which would go really nice with the burst, as theyre both kind of orangey.

Ok i'll trust that you know your stuff and hope no one pops in and tells me your wrong after i've bought the guitar !

Welcome to the forum.

Yeah, as JagOW said your Strat neck will fit the chinese Jagmasters, i've done it myself. I sold one not long ago

thanks..this really is encouraging as i had my heart set on the current jag for the project then was dissapointed about the different scale issue but it seems i can build the guitar i want after all

Fran ; you are talking the current shortscale model jagmaster when you say the chinese ones arent you?

I'm being obsessively thorough about this, because i'm in danger of buying a STRAT n case the jag doesnt work. this as you can imagine would be terrible, becasuse the jag is simply the sexiest guitar shape ever.

And we all have our spec preferences, but this project to me will be the ultimate offset ; two P90'S, the offset look and without the 'quirks' of the jaguar and jazzmaster - for band purposes (many hours of rehearsing and gigs when we can get them) i need simple reliability and versatility with good tones, not just 'jack of all trades' - the P90's are at times out-doing my prized telecaster for all round versatility, and thats quite an acheivement.

Anyway, i digress, i have a guitar to build!

Yeah, i'm sure the chinese Jagmaster (newest model) uses a conversion neck so a 25.5 neck will fit. The model before may do as well but the Jap Vista is definitely true short scale.

thanks. i've heard of 'conversion necks' but i;m wondering, how does it work? how is it possible to correctly intonate a 25.5 AND a 24 on the same body?

not too technical please, i'm not the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to mathematics !

Basically, there are less frets than a standard shortscale neck and the last fret is really close to the end of the neck

thanks! i was expecting some complicated equations that i wouldnt understand. Its a nice feling when you learn something new. less frets, closer to the end of the board....that is clever. i'm going to go look at pics of them now, its not something i'd have noticed!

As a Jagmaster owner, I will also vouch for the fact that a strat neck WILL fit on a Jagmaster.

Maple would look awesome.

As for the whole conversion neck thing, I've never understood it 😛 I Just know that it works 😁

thanks again for all the help. I just went and looked in an old fender frontline in my garage and sure enough, it appears the current jagmaster has 21, as opposed to the standard strat 22 frets and its hard to be 100% but i'm pretty sure that 21st fret is closer to the end of the 'board.

cool, cool, cool. thesimplicity of the jagmaster with P90 pups - could there possibly be a better offset ?

nice! there was a guitar, i forget the name/brand but it was a cheapie - SX maybe ; it looked like a fender jazzmaster with p90's but with a sort of sharks tail shape instead of a raounded bout at the back. Have to say it was stunning and come to think of it i might just go look see if i can find one! cant remember the name though.

Beautiful... If I had the money I'd buy one of the Telemaster lookin ones and stick an authentic Tele neck on it. That'd be awesome.
