Mustang with a jazzmaster/jag tremolo?

So I'm thinking of starting a project with at Warmoth Mustang body. I want to start with one without the bridge routing and install a tailpiece and bridge setup from a Jazzmaster/Jaguar. Does anyone know if this is possible/been done before? Cheers.

not sure about how deep the route would go on your everyday mustang though(might be too deep for the small size of the mustang body)

thanks. i feel like a complete moron, i've never even seen bilinda butcher playing one of those. that's pretty much exactly what i was going after. that thing is awesome. though i might opt out for different pups if i could end up pulling this together.

I forget how deep the route is but 30mm keeps coming into my head for some reason, it will be tight with a Mustang body, it may leave something like 5mm of wood to the other side. Careful Router skills needed!

so after doing some reading on tailpiece routing...I don't know if this is going to happen, simply because like Fran said, I'd be left with something like an 1/8" of wood left. yikes. Is the spring in the trem really that long?

its been suggested before, but why not route through and just make a little backplate for it like a strat

Will you actually be using the tremolo?

It may be a silly question but if its going to be a vanity tail piece you can remove the spring mechanism and do a shallow route.

Alternatively, use a thicker body. My JS has a Jag trem but my body was something like 43mm thick like a Tele.

If you do need a butcher to sort out your belongings in your undergarments then it can be arranged.

Although fingers mcarthy is'nt as precise as he used to be since his eyes went. he more or less just hacks at his victims now, er i mean customers.

Does the standard mustang trem work better than the jag/jazz trem?

It looks good but like fran say. If its going to be problematic...

But hey. if it is for vanity purposes it'd look sweet.

I cant get on with the Mustang trem to be honest, the Jag trem is my favorite along with the Floyd Rose.

Vintage Jazzmaster tremolo - bottom of tremolo plate ---> end of the stud bolt - 32mm

I checked another vintage aftermarket Jazzmaster tremolo and it was 28mm

Stock vintage Jazzmaster (body thickness 1 9/16" (40mm)) tremolo route was 1 1/4" (35mm).

Truthfully you could grind the stud bolt down to 25mm (1") and still have a few threads to adjust the spring tension.

Warmoth Mustang bodies are a 1 1/2" thick (38mm), vintage were apr. 1 3/8" (35mm).

Don't trust my vintage guitar bodies, cause my stuff has been sanded and refinished a few times.

Anyways, if you grind the tremolo stud bolt down to 1", you'd still have 1/2" of wood behind the tremolo... plenty. Jazzmaster are big bodies, I believe the tremolo route and lower control route (vol/tone/jack/toggle) were routed so deep to cut down on body weight. The upper horn control cavity routes are shallow, only cause of the tummy contour behind it.

I must admit being a van halen fan i'd love a guitar with a floyd rose but i don't think it'd be allowed out of the house.

i must concede, mad mikes jagmaster looks good with a floyd.

my mate @ work distributes them in the uk so could get one at trade price but it would probably still cost more than what i payed for my jm. 😆
