Mustang with a jazzmaster/jag tremolo?

Thanks for all the input, guys. The trem, while definitely looking way cooler than a mustang trem, wouldn't just be for looks. I think Joey's idea of grinding the bolt down might be a viable option I'll be looking into next. Cheers

Let me know what Warmoth wants for that body. If it's a ridicilous price, I might be able to hook you up with a Mustang body later in January.

That would be awesome, man. warmoth wants 175 for raw alder (not bad), but 360 for solid painted (ouch!). My idea initially came from wanting to put a jm/jag trem in my cyclone, but it's my baby and it's the rare caramel metallic color, and i'd just have a hard time tearing her up. NTM that with the strat bridge in there, I don't think it would work in the first place. PM me if you want my email.

I checked another vintage aftermarket Jazzmaster tremolo and it was 28mm
Stock vintage Jazzmaster (body thickness 1 9/16" (40mm)) tremolo route was 1 1/4" (35mm).
Truthfully you could grind the stud bolt down to 25mm (1") and still have a few threads to adjust the spring tension.
Warmoth Mustang bodies are a 1 1/2" thick (38mm), vintage were apr. 1 3/8" (35mm).
Don't trust my vintage guitar bodies, cause my stuff has been sanded and refinished a few times.
Anyways, if you grind the tremolo stud bolt down to 1", you'd still have 1/2" of wood behind the tremolo... plenty. Jazzmaster are big bodies, I believe the tremolo route and lower control route (vol/tone/jack/toggle) were routed so deep to cut down on body weight. The upper horn control cavity routes are shallow, only cause of the tummy contour behind it.

PS. This was great info, man. It took me ages to dig up half of this months ago when i was serious about doing this with my musicmaster.... i've long since forgotten about the project (for the most part) but its still in the back of my head (summer, maybe?)

I posted this idea on another forum years ago, I still wana do it but dont have the funds to ATM.

But when I do I'm just gonna buy a 66 duo sonic(not routed for any trem), jaguar tremolo and wack the trem in the duo sonic.

pretty much exactly the situation i'm in now, except with my musicmaster.... meaning i will probably drop in a bridge pickup and some switches as well

have you decided how you're going to fit the damn thing in, yet?

(I think the two options out there right now are a.) grind down the bolt or b.) going straight through the body, strat style)

They fit,just, but they do fit as I have seen it done. The wood under the trem collet nut is only about 2mm thick but its 100% doable easily enough.

Probably need a cyclone body for that rout. Im not sure it would fit on a standard mustang/. That would be soo much better then these sitty rocker bridges ans outta tune in a minute tremolos. Dont get me wrong i do like mustang trems. no major problems with them if they are setup proper exspecially if its set up like my "les paul mustang" "superstang" were i have a stopbar tailpiece and gotoh bridge... You should check out my mustang i you like lespauls. it has a toggle in the horn and gibson burst buckers etc etc in the pics of your mustangs post

It would be easier to put a Jazzmaster vibrato in a standard Mustang than into a Cyclone 🙄 .

They fit fine.

Jaguar trems use the same styled bridge in the stock set up, a floating bridge.

Mustang vibratos NEVER go out of tune if you set them up correctly. Stable as a Les Paul!

ehh i have mine setup niceley but too much whammy useage gets it out of tune quickly and i dont wanna go through a big setup like creepingnets lol or (madmike)
