someone said: The idea of rejecting homosexual desires my sound impossible, but believe me it can be done, there's a guy in our church who has had homosexual urges since he was a kid, and he steadfastly refuses to give in to those desires, and he is actually one of he happiest people I know. He greatly inspires me in my battle with other sins and is a truly amazing Christian. Anyways, I don't believe God hates gays, I believe that God hates sin and if you're actively embracing sin that there is a contradiction there.
Right, I have MASSIVE issues with what both you guys have just said, and I'm tempted to keep my mouth shut for the sake of not getting kicked off this forum, 'cause I like it here, and I like you guys, but you know what, #### it, 'cause what you two have just said is just a whole other world of ignorant.
First off:
So, God loves gay people, but because of part of their genetic make-up that effects their brain chemistry (i.e. the way HE made them, if you believe that), they're de facto sinners and going to hell? Is that the deal?
Again, you're assuming that people who are gay have a choice, they don't, you're either gay or straight, you don't choose, you are destined to develop into one or the other from birth. Furthermore, I defy you to deny the raw power that is a person's sex drive. People like/ want/ need companionship in all its forms, including sex, it's built into us to propagate the species. I know being gay doesn't do that, everyone knows that, they themselves know it but that drive is still the same. You can't switch primal urges off, it doesn't work. End of.
I'd also like to say that I, while not gay, have been a drug addict, I'm curious to know why you've brought that up, but at the same I time think that that's just wrong. You cannot possibly make that kind of a generalisation. I became dependant on painkillers after an operation on my leg. Is God ashamed of me because I took them in such quantities for such a length of time, because my leg hurt that much if I didn't, for it to cause a chemical imbalance in my brain that made me *physically* need them? Am I going to hell because it was agonising after a prolonged period of time not taking them? It was NEVER a matter of "temptation" and frankly it's an insult to anyone who's ever struggled with an addiction to think that, to belittle it on such a profound level. It's not like "oh I might just have another one", it's "if I don't get more in the next 10 minutes, I'm going to die". Don't you dare tell me I "succumbed to temptation", don't you #### dare. I got off the pills in the end out of sheer force of will and d'you know who I did that for? Me.
And drug abuse barely existed while they were writing the Bible anyway, it says nowhere in it "thou shalt not get stoned off your tits and pretend to be Superman". It isn't there. So who made that a sin? It's not a matter of morality, if you want or need to take drugs, or if you're gay, then go nuts, no-one should ever be allowed to judge you, it' your body, and it affects no-one else. The only point at which drugs start hurting other people is meth addicts mugging people or going into prostitution or stuff like that, I'm not advocating that behaviour at all but again, those people have a substance in their system that's making them think a certain way. You can't say "God says drugs are bad so drugs are bad". Drugs, and morality, are entirely subjective.
If that guy's faith is more important to him than the way his brain was built, then you know what, good for him, if it makes him happy then fine. But it doesn't work for everyone. In fact it doesn't work for most people, and you can't expect everyone to be that wilful, especially about something as powerful as base sexual urges.
I just know you guys are gonna hate me from now on, if I'm even allowed to stay on the forum. Won't that be fun? But I have a massive, MASSIVE problem with anyone who looks down upon a whole demographic of people for something they can't help, even if you say you "love them" (which is frankly just condescending). That is the very heart of intolerance. But you know what, if I have offended you, then think about this: I might as well turn water into wine for all the chance you'll change your minds. So don't worry about it.
