Jackson Kelly build - DONE!!

Yep, I'm doing it.

The core is made from 3 layers of 12mm plywood for strength and the back and front are made from 3mm MFD for an easy, sanding free finish.

Hopefully I'll be able to do this the 1 week I have off from school.

As you can see, the body shape is fully cut out on all 5 pieces of wood. Tomorrow, I'll do the control route and maybe even some gluing together of the panels.

It took 2 weeks before I was this far in the jagson build.

Anyway, today I have done the control and pickup routes. This will be tidied up with a file when I'm done with the jigsaw. I haven't used a router for any of this. The guys at UG have been extremely helpful in telling me not to use plywood 'becuase it is'nt a porper toenwood'

Thats looking good dude, way more tidier and methodical than your JS project.

The idea of ply sandwhiched with MDF is clever thinking, that way you have a solid anchor for fixing hardware with the ply and the MDF is finish-friendly.

(BTW, BC Rich used a lot of ply in the 80s and although they are'nt regarded as the companies finest models there are some good guitars from that range).

Are you fitting a 24 fret neck?

Its a lot more messy in real life, but this build is STORMING along compared to the last one. The neck pocket works properly and I've been more careful with everything.

Yeah, its the same 24 fret neck that's on the other one. I'm going for the same massive upper fret access as the other one too. The controls are a volume knob, tone switch and a humbucker split switch.

Btw, how's your MDF mosrite holding up?

It appears to be solid but its only seen home use. The string tension pulling on the tail piece was my only concern tbh but its only as strong as the glue you use like on any guitar.

Yeah, well this evo-stik stuff is stronger than the wood itself..... or so they say.

I'm gluing the plywood together now. I'll wait for it for a night, then I'll do some work on the bridge mounting and tidying up cavities, then the front goes on. After that's done, the back goes on and I tidy the edges of the whole thing.

I'm getting some spraying done on the headstock now. Its looking much better than the jagson was. The neck is ever so slightly warped. It'll be a bolt on, so no worries if it gets out of hand. It is also bound for teh friedmans 😁

I'm also clamping the top veneer on, I'm not sure if I used quite enough glue though. We'll see.

Before I did that, I tidied up the control route so that its all flush and ready for shielding. Now I've got to get the GFS pickup out of the stagemaster. I put it in there thinking this project wouldn't start till summer.

The guitar is glued together and drilled and all that.

The first coat of primer has just gone on

I can't believe this has only taken 4 days

Also, the headstock is pretty much done.
