The MDF is only a veneer, he made that very clear on UG GB&C 😆

Not seen that thread over there.

Is'nt the rest Ply? It will still sustain well, BC Rich used ply on a lot of 80s models. Theoretically its hardwood veneers glued together.

I'm all for it, if its good enough for Danelectro and Lindert then why not. Lets face it, its a Metal guitar, its gonna have a high output humbucker and go through processors. Its never meant to be a Martin acoustic is it. 😉

DONE!! Only 5 days of work. I can't believe how quick this was.

Good pictures will be taken in the morning.

As with the jagson, string bends are accompanied by a horrible scraping noise from the unpolished frets and the neck is as chunky as a baseball bat. Other that that, with a bit of filing, and some TLC, this will work rather well.

Polish them frets with .0000 wire wool, mask off the fretboard first.

Bad news peeps, The truss rod doesn't seem to work.the action is about 1 cm at one point and I can't adjust it.

I'll have to buy another neck soon.

This basically means that the guitar is near impossible to play ☹

figured i would pipe in about wood, AGAIN!

there is NO such thing as tone wood when you are working with a solid body bolt on guitar. im sorry but, its all in your imagination.

an ash body will sound the same as a basswood body as long as EVERYTHING else is EXACTLY the same.

but anywho.

I'm taking it apart and redoing it. Its being refinished and has had the neck pocket redone. I've also moved the tailpiece.

So. Old thread, old project, but by the looks of parcel tracking, my kelly should be working by saturday. I have a new pickup coming - its a GFS power rail, and also a switch and that new neck. I refinished it in late march so the body looks pretty good. There is a TINY bit of wrinkling, but you have to seriously look for it.

Well I've done the wiring today and put the tuners on the new neck, which will go on on tuesday and be strung up. I have to say, this new GFS neck is beautiful - there are no warps or twists and the finish is beautiful!

I'm also doing the stagemaster up. I've got a 10k GFS hotrail in the neck, moved the SD SSL-3 to the middle and also put the crunchy pat back in the bridge. The kelly has a GFS power rail in it now 😀

Gut shots 😀 You can see the switches and pots there. I think the hot wire on the pot could be touching the sides, so I better turn it round.

Its finished and strung up!!

I sorted some little wiring gremlins, like getting the jack wires the right way round 😳

I blasted it through the bogner for about half an hour. Its the first time I've played those drop D AiC riffs since I had the jagstang working about 9 months ago.

It plays great and the neck is smooth and straight. All I've got to do now is turn the coil split switch round and adjust intonation. Demos soon guys - I'll make it a 2 in 1 for the bogner and the kelly.
