A bit of progress has been made.
Yesterday (Monday) I picked up my newest acquisition: a 2004 Squier Standard Fat Telecaster.
Today, the pickup I ordered arrived in the mail.
Now, I have hit a bit of a dilemma. I bought the Fat tele out of a desire for the rockin' humbucker in the neck idea. Turns out, the pickup suffers from the same flaws as any other stock tele pickup: too bassy, too muddy. The only difference is that it is so damn loud. The bridge pickup is not so great either, and the entire guitar - despite having had 2 previous owners - looks like it has never had a professional setup. It's a nightmate to play; the frets feel 'scratchy', the action is way too high (and I can't lower it without buzzing AND dead notes), and the frets are just overall too high.
Cosmetically, the guitar looks wonderful, and has a high degree of workmanship.
Here is what I am thinking...
Since the guitar needs to be set up, and I am not terribly impressed with the overall sound, I am thinking I might use this guitar for my project instead of my Affinity.
Which leads to more issues, the main of which is: do I swap the neck from my Affinity - which I think of as being MY NECK - to the new guitar? I would definitely be thinking of the project as my 'main' tele, with the Affinity taking a back seat. I think I want to fave my favourite neck on my main guitar.
These issues are more for me to decide, and I need to do some serious brainstorming on the matter, but I am keen to hear people's thoughts. When I have decided, I will contact my luthier to see if the plan is practical to put into practice.
