Tubes really aren't that expensive to maintain. Remember, you'll still have the power amp clipping like crazy when you turn it up.

True. But I don't know what a 12 yr old would do with 120 watts. My 50w crate would have wembley in tizz. Also, top notch tubes would be the least of his worries. One of them new 20w jet city amps would have been great for him. Designed by soldano with 2 EL84s. Sweet little amp.

They're not bad. They sure beat the crap out of the other solid state monsters like the Line 6 spiders and marshall MGs. Still no tone machines.

okay. Still, I'm 15 and unless I had my own studio, I would NEVER go above 50 watts. What kind of gigs is he playing? How many people?

Aren't Line 6's usually intended for metal guitarists? From the one's i've seen/played the seem to be more in that direction than anything.
