Mayer plays pop music with blues influenced guitar parts. He was becoming to sound like more of a blues influenced musician (perhaps in the Robert Cray kind of sense) until he released Battle Studies and basically scrapped his style that sounded good and went back to Heavier Things era crap. He is a #### good guitarist, I can't stand his whiny singing voice most of the time though. When he lets rip to sing some blues stuff, he sounds pretty good though. He's a very talented musician and song-writer, no doubt. He isn't a blues musician though. I don't care for modern "bluesmen" one bit.
