Mine's weird, but that's because it's custom to my guitar, I wired it like this since I had to do pickup changes really really fast in the last band I was in. And then I used the Strangles and stuff to piss our journalist off, she hates treble, and used to get on my nerves.

would it be expensive to take it to the music store with the schematics for the stock wiring and have them rewire it back to stock? I dont have the skillz to do that

Im thinking of maybe having them rewire it different like mad mike although i dont know what the strangle and fake ones are

Strangle = Third Switch down on the football shaped plate on a Fender Jaguar. What it does is cuts all the lows out of the sound.

Fake Rhythm Circuit = It emulates a Jaguar/Jazzmaster Rhythm circuit by grounding off a certain amount of high frequencies to ground via a capacitor. Basically, it does the same thing as a tone control, except to a more extreme degree. Really cool for fuzztone type stuff. I have a Kramer with both of these settings on it as well, allbeit on separate switches.

You know, I've been reading everyones comments and following along with my new jag... went so far as to make a diagram. STILL, just don't get it. Either Jag players are stupid or it the switches don't make sense.

Either way, I have been able locate the different tones that I want to us and feel comfortable with the switches in that sense. I suppose that's what really matters. It's just unfortunate for us to be confused about this.

Well, maybe the stock switches (or the schematic) don't make perfect sense, because there's 9 different ways to put the two switches, but with those you get only 4 different sounds (neck pup on, bridge pup on, both on/in phase, both/out phase). Plus the both off -mode, which is often recommended for beginners.. 🙄

Mine was wired like this (original wiring):

Out of phase was in this position:

Neck x-- Bridge --x and

Neck x-- Bridge x--

Means: When the neck-switch was x-- it was always out of phase.

Now i had replaced the humbucker and i can split the new humbucker. So my new wiring is different...

The original Fender ad from 1995 says it's that number 1: "Each pickup has it's own 3 position slide switch with the neck pickup switch featuring an "out of phase" mode." The date on the file says it's from 2001, just found it on my hard disk. 😀

It's just the way they have worded it. The bridge p/up switch also has 3 positions and therefore is also on/off/phase.

X-- X-- = ON ON

X-- --X = OUT OF PHASE

--X --X = ON ON

--X X-- = OUT OF PHASE

-X- X-- = OFF ON

X-- -X- = ON OFF

--X -X- = ON OFF

-X- --X = OFF ON

PLEASE STOP TALKING ABOUT THIS.

THE SWITCHING HAS BEEN THE SAME SINCE THE MUSTANG WAS CREATED IN 1964. IF YOUR JAG-STANG DOESN'T HAVE THE SAME SWITCHING THEN IT IS WIRED INCORRECTLY.

Well isn't it obvious that people believe what they read and if the Fender ad says that only the neck pup switch has "phase" position, they'll think so? That's why this is so unclear, and why this discussion seems neverending. Of course averyone should test it with their own (or someone elses....) Jag-Stang, not just take for granted what the great big guitar company says.
