it isn't at all. all the hardware, tuners, switches, pots, wiring, shielding plates, bridge, knobs, wood, finish, decal, nut, everything is different

i have a CIJ Jag and I love it...I modded out the bridge for a mustang bridge....The pick ups were complete ####e. Without a doubt. I put in buckers because i felt that if I'm changing them I might as well change them...never would have done that with an original vintage. Its a 3ts with dark brown ts pickguard, alder body, and rosewood fretboard. Sounds great now and no bridge buzz due to mustang bridge with the electrical tape trick...

ive played american jags and I like the feel of my japanese better. also the tremelo,wiring, and pickups are probably the most major differences...but the tremelo works fine on the jap... get the jap and put new pickups and wiring in it and if you love the whammy bar that fooking much by the tremelo cause i bet that you will still save a few hundred dollars

Why do Jags have those metal teeth on the pups? I don't see that on any other guitar. Do they have a purpose? Will that pup fit in any other pocket, or are they strictly for Jags?

Oh, and why do they make guitars differently in other countries? Is it a Fender decision, done for cost, or is it up to the management to pick the materials? You'd think they would use the same materials and just have cheaper labor, instead of cheaper everything.

The materials in a MIJ Jag are not "cheap".

The AV Jags appear to be an attempt to produce a Jag EXACTLY the way they were back in the '60s.

The MIJ Jags appear to be more of a modern production Jag, without some of the frills like bridge cover and mute.

Precisely. It appears to me that MIJ Jags are when you just want a Jag, an AV is when you want an exact repro.

Still curious 'bout the nut widths. Also, some of the MIJ vs MIA colours seem to look dif, like the Ocean T for example. The MIJ seems more of a green and the MIA seems more of a blue.

nut width is the same. 42mm. as for colours, yes, they probably do look a bit different with the different nitro/poly types of paint used on either

Just thought the nut might be dif because a lot of things made in the U.S. still seem to measure with inches vs metric. 😀
