What I meant about the Mustang was, is it worth it, for what you'd be getting? I didn't mean "Is it worth it?" then expecting a reply like "Well it's worth it if you want it"... in short, if you personally wanted that guitar, would you happily pay the price?

i find that 11 oclock to 1 oclock gets you a good kurt chorus sound. every one says the 69 reissue is bad, but there stupid, i love mine, i put a hotrails in it and it sounds great, left the pots at 250k's and it sounds great, right when i changed the pup i didnt love it becuase the hot rail is a very bassy pick up if you ask me, but i got used to it and i love its sound. the 69's are really light to, and they have a great neck.

Yeah i played the 65's down denmark street in london.. they just didnt do it for me.. something about them.. then i played a competition 'stang and i fell in love.. then i ended up getting my 69 would rather it was dakota red tbh.. i'm still thinking about putting some differant p'ups in mine, maybe some antiquitys.. i dont really want anything humbucker in it i have the jagstang for that

I wise best of luck getting your mustang, but to be honest don't you think I'd be better to go after your own tones instead of copying kurts? Not being a jerk or anything I'm just saying.

Well as I - think I - have said, I wouldn't really be modding it or getting humbuckers put in so I highly doubt it'd be copying Kurt completely. I see where you're coming from though - I play Nirvana stuff (hell, I have Nirvana in my forums user name), am getting a Small Clone chorus pedal soon and want a Mustang.

The main thing is I'd like to be able to get a Nirvana-like sound without turning into a complete rip-off, and also I think the Mustang as a guitar is a really nice piece of equipment. It's light from what I've heard, has a nice sound thanks to the Fender Vibrato Bridge and apparently the neck is about 24" as opposed to the Stratocaster's 25", one of the (not too important, but annoying) problems I have as my fingers aren't very long and it sometimes causes a cramp towards my knuckles.

youd probably want to change the pick ups if you get a 69 re issue, the stock ones arent to good, single sized humbuckers are good choices, i have a hot rails in mine, and i get great nirvana tonez and i get good other music tones

Ditto. How come no one does this for omar rodriguez's tone? Or Lee ranaldo's? I think they have verging-on perfect tone for what they do. Cest la vi

And nirvanafreak, I'd be very, very worried if you couldnt operate a small clone and get nirvana-esque sounds. If its any consolation what you hear or record will have been the producer setting up his rig so it sounded nice, live he didnt give a ####. If you're going for the punk ethos he followed, dont give a #### either!

when did i say i couldnt operate one? i said i could, and kurt set all his eq ans #### anyways, not the producer. he had the same settings live as in the studio

I doubt Cobain set up all his gear for the studio. Listen to how perfect Breed is off Nevermind, i really f*cking love that song and everytime i hear it i don't think "Cobain", i think "Butch Vig".

OMAR'S TONE IS AMAZING!!!!!!!! I WISH I COULD GET THAT KINDA TONE BUT THE AMOUNT OF PEDALS INVOLVED IN FRIGHTENING lmao

But AshleyNirvana I see where your coming from with your Nirvana-like tones your lookin for the grungy tone best of luck with that and It seems the mustang will be the guitar for you! But I warn you the pick ups might not get you the thick tone your looking for.

I got my Small Clone just a while ago today and it's really cool. I love how easy it is to activate, and is it just me or does it sound more Nirvana-like with the depth switch up and the rate facing directly up?

Next up, a Mustang, then the world!

As for my self. I have two different rig set ups. My Nirvana and my normal live rig. My Nirvana rig consists of my soon to be completed custom built mustang (a mixtures of cobains 69 LPB and his stangs from in utero tour) with some of my own choices. Also uses my DS-1 and Small Clone.

As for my normal live rig..

1981 Fender M-80 (with reverb on 10). Treble on 6, Mid on 5, and Bass on 4. Runs into my EH Small Clone, which goes into my DS-2 (or occasionally a Death Metal distortion). Planning on adding a wah or volume pedal soon. All of that goes into my Standard strat and various other guitars..

That sounds cool. 😀 What settings do you have on your Nirvana amp?

Currently I am on Gain 7, Level 10, Treble 7, Bass 0. Also, if you know, what tone settings are best on a guitar? I've never really noticed any difference when I've fiddled with them to be honest, so I don't know what number I should have them on for the best to Nirvana sound.

It's different for every setup.

You'll have different pickups, a different amp, different weight of guitar and different leads. All these will affect your tone in different ways so you just need to use your ears and twiddle the knobs.

What I have now is as close as I can get and it sounds pretty good... obviously I don't have the same pickups etc that Kurt did (that might be a bit much, for now) but from my set up, it's pretty cool.
