CIJ Jaguar woods

How do u tell if a MIJ Jaguar is made of Alder or not? A store by me sells them and I dont know if they are Alder or Basswood.

why does it matter? I believe in another thread we talked about this...both woods are quite similar. Truth is, basswood is slightly less dense, but not to a scale that would affect the way an instrument sounds...[/i]

Best method I've figured out for testing so far:

Materials needed: Body wood (to be tested), 8ft ladder.

1. Climb to the top of the ladder, take the guitar up with you.

2. Drop the guitar.

3. Examine where the body fell. How hard did it dent? The bigger the dent, the more likely it's basswood.

alder is much heavier than basswood

Yeah but all things fall at the same rate regardless of weight. So the basswood would dent more because it's softer.

Bull crap. Go play a basswood Jag and then an Alder jag and tell me what difference you hear. Not much I'll bet.

Only real difference between basswood and alder is physical properties. Alder has better looking grain to it and basswood tends to dent more. Acoustically very similar.

A stock Jap Jag though will sound different to a AV Jag which sounds different to a Vintage Jag. All to do with pickups and components. But a Basswood Jap Jag will sound the same as an alder one.

after owning a alder mustang body and a bass wood mustang body and using the exact same pics and pot is each.

there is a slight diffrence tonally.

Of course there is a difference, but to the average ear it is unnoticable.

i didn't even know my japuar was alder until a week or two ago.

and if that's the only criteria for which it would be different, then

sunburst = alder

solid colour = basswood

Wrong, CIJ jaguars have been lately made with alder,

so the question is...how do i tell if its an old one made with basswood, or a new one made with alder? 😕

I think !oh THE LAST 60 YEARS! has pretty much proven you can build a good sounding electric guitar out of just about anything, if you know what you're doing.

they must be new, cuz they must be importing them still, or they wouldnt have so many. the store that i found is really cool, its got a wide variety of jaguars, jazzmasters, cyclones, strats, teles, mustangs, and a hell of a lot of fender guitars.

i cant stand it when people use words like "vibe" and "mojo" and what ever to describe guitars. (not that you ever did, im just bitching here)

its a ####in piece of wood. most of the time with fender, they 2 or 3 pieces of wood, sometimes more. does usa wood glue differ from japan wood glue?

Mez shoot up a photo of your comp wood music master. (its got a comp stripe made of wood, its badass)

usa glue has more sustain and better tone. 😆
