Each to their own and that, but the focus should be on the beat being put out by the click. A click is precise and exact, taking your bpm from the pendulum being far right or far left isn't, because 90% of the time, it'd be too fast to EXACTLY tell when the beat is.
But old school metronomes are awful cool, I'll give you that..
