i thought he was going to do a sonic/ daphne blue. but then this came into his head at the last minute.

neck number two,

side dots are in, neck is shaped, now im deciding whether to put the dots in as standard or to do something really cool with them,

you guys might be able to help me with some input.

so just let me know which ones you guys like the best.

either the 2nd or 3rd. but this should be just your decision.

I'd also try the look of block on 12(like sting's bass) with normal dots. or even just 2 dots on 12.

I don't know, the standard is comfortable but something different can always be nice.

the organization on 1 looks just too outta control at 15-17-19

i decided on something and went ahead and started fretting it.

its been a while.

i have fretted and finished the neck(except for a few more coats of laquer)

and the body has been wired and pretty much done all and all.

Awesome, you been a busy boy while I been away! Looks stunning! I'm still not a fan of the shape but the work is awesome. I think white pickup covers would have gone better with the colour though.

I really am going to have to lean all that cool stuff. Rob, you have no choice, you are now officially my e-mentor! OK?

Just noticed, weren't you going to put bone knobs on? You've pictured it with Chrome one's there (which admitedly probably go better but still).

I like the overall concept. I'm a big fan of the Silvertone design.

I particularly like the colour and design of the body.

However, being a critic of some of your recent projects, there's a few things that bug me. I don't like the tuning heads, the shape of the end of the headstock and the truss rod hole. you seem to over-use the file. the neck is too rounded on the edges, and it looks as if you have done this to cover up possible errors/chips, particularly evident on the heel of the fretboard.

Another thing, I can't help but associate glued maple fretboards with lower quality instruments such as Squiers, Cimars and Samicks. Maple necks are more pro with skunk stripes (it's very subjective of course.).

My suggestions would be to square the headstock edges off more, it would be so much more professional. It would also look really good with a matching blue headstock.

It will look cool when it's finished. Do you have a logo design?

bob, no problem man, i will tell you anything i know, and everything.

originally the color was to be baby blue and the aged pups would look great with that.

but he changed the color at the last minute.

and yeah i got the bone knobs on now,

i just din;t have both of them at the time so thats why i put the chrom ones on.

cross, you are correct in come of what you say.

im not skilled and have not figured out the skunk stripe thing.

the neck is really round just to compensate for the dual truss rod,(its rather larg)

i did chip off part of the heel and thats why i did the extra carving stuff on it.

you honestly cannot tell the fretboard is glued until you get you to the heel.

and i don't have a logo yet,

i think im just gonna sign it like paul reed smith style.

anything that is a pet peeve for you guys is a pet peeve for me as well.

with anything i would present a few choices for the kid, and for some reason he would choose the right one but then he would do something completely different.

he painted alot of things that he really should not have painted.

like the neck pocket

pup routs,

trem routes.

and knob routes.

all of that stuiff had o sanded down ALOT just to get it back to normal size.

its all becuz he is used auto paint and used auto procedures for everything.

which is why, in my opinion, the finish looks like #### and he should have let me do it, but hey, it saved me some time and save him some money.

i got about 2 more coats of laquer to do before final sanding, buffing and full assembly.

I can't do proper skunk stripes yet either. I don't have a proper router jig.

One suggestion would be to have bound the neck in black plastic. That would have looked awesome.

since chips guitar is almost done, minus the nut and final setup, i started to get really boared,

figured i would make these.

i had the tele cut out and hollowed out before today but thats it.

so all that you see from that plus the jag-stang and the jazzmaster have been done in the last 8 hours or so.

btw

im selling the jazzmaster and the jag-stang bodies.

i really don;t know how much tho so if youare intereseted make me an offer.

OK, Rob, as you are now officially my mentor, what Router bit do you use for pickup holes/neck pockets? I think I need to buy a more appropriate one. I used one with a bearing at the bottom for the neck pocket on my 6-string bass because the body was in two halves, front and back, and the front was the right thickness for the neck pocket.

Do I need one that's quite thin to get corners tight enough?

1/8 inch 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch double flute flkuush trim bits with the bearing on the bottom of the cutter. i can't remembver the diameter but its fairly universal, i got my bits at router bits.com

i went wit the best, the cheap stuff does not pay off and it will ruin your project.

also, for making templates i have a 1inch double flute with the bearing on the top(very small cutter) and then its big brother which is a 2inch with the bear at the top(double flute) and small cutter as well. those two are the shiznit for the table router and template making.

Took me a second to work out how that worked then, but you're using a table, so everything is upside down, so what you call the top I call the bottom. When I said top I meant closest to the router.

So what I need is a few bits with the bearing on the other end, the end nearest the router.

i only use the table to making templates and qtr round.

the rest of the time im using a plunge router.

think of the bit sitting with the shaft on the bottom and the cutter above it.

thats how i was referring to where the bearing should go.

always have a stash of backup bearings.

Yeah, think I have a lot more tool buying ahead of me, which means I have a lot more money spending, which means I first have to do some money saving, and to do that I first need to find a job!
