The difference is also in spring strength, how trem arm pops in etc.

If I have to get a Jap or noname one, I will, but as long as it has the basic features (including trem lock, many nonames dont have them)

You may notice is the pictures that the finish on the body looks "wavey". When I first got the body it was smooth but after leaving it in its bubble wrap for months and taking it out, it have this wave. When I took it the otherday to try fitting tuners, the guy said something along the line of not enough sealer and the paint layer was warping. It isnt anything major, the guitar still looks damn nice!!!

Two thumbs for the neck fit, it was great!!

Im confused about the finish, you definately used sealer and there is plenty of paint on there, maybe all Im seeing is a bit of the woods texture? Who knows, this guitar store guy might have been full of ####.

I didnt realize that PayPal takes savings accounts (at least the Australian one does). This may speed things ahead ALOT, so after next paycheck I'm going to buy all the remaining parts and finish this beast.

I'm going to just go with the Jap Jag tremolo, it will work, just prefer the American one (rather have the arm pop in instead of just wedged in)

Neck: Pickup Selector

Bridge: Humbucker split

Im also going to have 2 concentric pots, so BOTH pickups have a volume and tone control and so I can Tom Morello esq gating

only bit i dont like is the jag trem - only really useful if you like playing behind the bridge, like Sonic Youth/Placebo, otherwise too much hassle with tuning and sustain.

but then thats a personal choice.

No hassle with tuning, but sustain yes.

When I originally handed the idea to Cross, I didnt know much about string angle and sustain. So currently the tremolo is designed in the same position as the Jag, but with further knowledge I maybe should have had the trem forward a few cms to increase the string angle.

i've never had a problem with tuning stability on a jazz/jag tailpiece ever, the 'stang ones on the other hand are tempermental little buggers. i love the jag one because it doesn't have such an extreme range, has upward pull and a more subtle 'jazz' flutter incapable of extreme dive bombing.

that picking behind the bridge thing doesn't work particularly well if you're concerned with making music and the like. sonic youth are naked without their jazzmasters and jags because they just like to make noise, i saw them on the bill at an all-acoustic festival, and they brought their ####in jags and jazzies out... lame.

I tried out another AV Jazzmaster today but found the very limiting BUT i disovered after a bit of playing around that the trem wasnt set correctly and was lower than usual.

I think when I get the trem I'm going to bend the arm a bit so it sits higher and is easier to use (more leverage)

The Gotoh tuners arrived today BUT DAMN!! those press studs were a bitch. Also one tuner didnt fit properly so I had to sand down a bit of its base plate but now it fits fine.

Got the chromes, the supplier I got them from only had chrome Gotohs.

Nah didnt need to file, just had to press pretty hard as the holes were EXACTLY the same diameter as the studs.
