you might want to try something tho.
i have gotten bad pots before and they screwed me up for a while,
do it right,
de-solder everything, check all wires, switches, pots, etc.
then proceed to wire the grounds first. and then the hot,
i have found that usually when i mess up it is becuz a ground is not conected somewhere.
