i have a jagstang, its not a real one, its a custom made one, well its not really custom either. RobOG made me the body and i just bought parts to put on it. But im wanting a mustang now.

well im just saying that if youre gonna get a mustang and route for a humbucker, thats essentially a jagstang, so yea, id get a jagstang. although a mustang might be easier on the wallet

ya i know what your sayin. Ive been looking at mustangs and jagstangs for a couple of days, there's one i want really bad on ebay right now but i dont have any money. The used MIJ stangs are like 300-400 right now but im sure they'll go up before it ends. Jagstang prices vary depending on color and condition. SOnic blue are like 499-600ish. fiesta red 350-500. i dont know what ill get, just depends how much money i have and what they have on ebay at the time.

whats wrong with kustom? and what marshall? forget crate. and most marshalls are ####ty for anything but distortion. get a fender blues junior. or a laney vc30. or a peavey. point is screw crate and marshalls not much better. whats your price range? although were getting a bit off topic

Totally off topic ..... This all depends on what sound you want - surely ????????

You must have played some pretty bad Marshall's or don't know how to set the tone on them ! Ever tried using your guitar volume & tone knobs ? Even the valvestate range had a pretty good clean sound, I play through a Marshall TSL, its the best amp I've ever owned,the clean sound is excellent & with the 3 channels you have got all you need.

well i think hes talking solid state, no? ive tried solid state marshals, theyre horrible, but yea, the better ones are great, but overpriced. and the cleans arent as good as amps les than half the price in the dsl, and jcm series.

Not a Marshall fan then ! Personally I would not use anything else, in a perfect world I would use a Fender & a Marshall through a splitter box, add effects & you can get any sound you want.

If its clean sounds anyone is after, I can more than recommend the Fender super champ XD, from memory, I think its got 16 pre-set amp models, & they are good, the acoustic modelling setting is better than the POD XT acoustic model. It may be only 15 watt, but its good enough to use miked up or direct into a PA for live gigs,its all valve & you can get them for

i was thinking about getting either the matshall mg100fx or whatever its called(its basically the lowest priced marshall) with a slant cab. Or the crate flexwave series,its got a built in tuner. i'm not sure yet. i can either get the marhsall with a slant or straight cab. whats the difference?

One's slanted and one's straight, that's the only difference.

If you have a full stack, the straight one goes at the bottom, if you have a half stack, get the slanted one.

dude, trust me stay away from the mgs. even if you prefer marshall clean over fender clean, which is blashphemy, you will HATE the mg because they are more trebley than fender amps. what are your power requirements? in a band? gigging? jamming in your basement?

I have used the Marshall MGFX in a rehearsal studio, I found them ok, it did not have the footswitch for changing channels, which was a bit of a pain, I assume thay come with one ?

Ref the treble, I always found Fender amps have more treble than they need, most Marshall users will know that they operate better with the treble off in distortion mode, I have the mid full on & the Bass full on with the treble full off, it depends on what sound you prefer, but if you want that classic british distortion tone, thats the way to get it.

A lot of the clean tone will also depend on your guitar & pick ups, you won't get that classic fender single coil tone with Gibson single coils (P.90 etc) or humbuckers.

What music do you play ?

Do you want the amp for gigging ?

Must admit I'm not a fan of the single speaker combo's, the 2x12's sound better to me, unless you are miking up through a PA.

The Marshall MGFX are ok for rock, indie , grunge etc, one word of advice, take your own guitar to a music shop & try one first, & try it loud, don't let the music shop dudes put you off trying it out. Have a good fiddle with the controls, then you will know exactly what sound you will get.

You don't have to buy it there, you will get a better deal online for brand new or ebay for 2nd hand.

The Marshall valvestate range are good, you will probably get a good deal on ebay for them, a 2x12 combo & 2x12 ext cab sounds nice & beefy.

Hey Tyler, list your gear including pickups, and tell us what distortion sound you are after by naming an artist and a song we could listen to, we'll tell you where to go from there.

I've had a few Marshalls and a Fender Twin. Like yoreel said, the Twin was so clean you could eat your dinner off it, ear drum splitting highs. The Marshalls aren't as clean, but they are not bad at all, even the valvestate i had had a decent clean.

It's all about compromise if you're on a budget.

Obviously if you were a signed band with an equipment fund, you'd buy either a clean amp and a distortion amp with a spiltter or some high end

well, my gear includes a fender mim strat or my custom jagstang. The strat has the 3 standard single coils, the jagstang has a seymour duncan jb in the bridge and standard strat neck pup. Right now i use a DOD grunge pedal, belive it or not every other distortion pedal i tried including the boss ds-1 sucked, the dod just gave me the right amount of everything i wanted, even if it is a cheap pedal. uhh, the sound i am after would prolly be nirvana, surely you all know what they sound like 😆 , And yes i am on a very tight budget, its my birthday in like 2 weeks and im having a hard time choosing between what i really want, fender mustang, a real jagstang, a marshall half stack. crate half-stack, or the polychorus and some other pedals. i really want that polychorus, i love all the different sounds you can get out of it. who knows what ill end up buyin. but my budget is prolly like $500ish..im not really sure how much ill get on my birthday. it would be great if i could get a half-stack and the polychorus, but that wont happen unless i find a really cheap halfstack.

As you know Kurt Cobain did use Marshalls along with loads of other amps & guitars, (not only the mustang). I think his main studio amps were Mesa Boogies tho, but I would guess that he done a lot of experimenting with different amps.

If you are on a budget then go with the Marshall, you will be able to get those sounds from it, a fender won't suit the sounds you are after.

Stick with the pedals you like, I got rid of a Dod chorus & got the Boss, its good but I can't get the sound I got from the Dod, it had a tone control, wish I'd kept it now.

Good advice from Yoreel.

I don't see why everyone tries to nail the Nirvana tone when almost any Marshall will get you 80% there, the rest comes from your technique. A rubbish player with Cobains exact rig would not sound like Nirvana, whereas an experienced guitarist could nail it with a cheap Marshall and a strat copy.

You have the jagstang with a JB, and you have a distortion pedal you like, getting a Marshall will get you closer but don't try and nail the sound, you don't have to. A generic punk sound with a bit more bass is fine for a Nirvana cover.

i'm not tryin to get the exact nirvana sound, i just like how marshall's sound, ive always been a fan of marshall but never had the money to get one. my first amp wasnt even mine, it was my granpa's fender princeton chorus, i love that amp but he took it back so i got 75 watt kustom, and now i want a marshall half stack as im gettin in a band and playing at my school during club days.
