I gonna go for lace sensors, they have a really cool interesting sound, not really like a true single coils, but they are really nice in their own way. Plus they are really quiet, so you can use them on high gain and get almost metal-like sounds.

Btw, anyone here ever used Dragonfire pickups? I have a pair of their active humbuckers in my LP right now, and except the hum, they sound decent.

how much of a difference does the magnet make in sustain?

I'd say that it's mostly your string setup that gives you sustain, if your strings are buzzing because you have a poor action, your sustain's gonna suffer. The pickup gives the notes "flavour".

I don't pledge loyalty to any one pickup manufacturer. I use EMG, Duncan, DiMarzio, Lawrence, Schaller, Gibson, Fender, and loads of cheap copy guitar pickups on the stuff I build or modify.

I also love performing wacko pickup experiments from time to time. My B.C. Rich Ironbird bass had it's single DiMarzio P-Bass pickup's pole pieces swapped out with the Aluminum Oxide cap screws from a low-end-version of a Seymour Duncan Invader humbucker. I also had a Harmony H802 pickup mounted in a former "junk-built" guitar using an upside-down humbucker frame to mount it to.

yeah, we werent talking about pick ups for kurdtz sounds, and he comes in and says mostauthentic... and just to add a little more fire to tragic, kurt never used the h3, switched it for a JB

Flying V's with EMG'S thats all they used when they record there albums and there amps are Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifiers, mhmm Marr told me himself 😆
