Just limited to distortion, the Fender Starcaster Distortion is my favorite, it's versatile enough to get the job done for darn near everything and does not sound like a fuzz trying to be an amp overdrive. The only problem is they are apparently hit-n-miss as far as life goes as my youtube comments show.

Yeah, its the sort of pedal you can take to gig where everyone is sharing one amp and sound good no matter what. Plenty of low end on it too, i like that. Most pedals flake on low end, especially in that price range.

So I just played the Boss OS-2 & was very surprised. I'm not usually a big fan of Boss pedals but this one was pretty good. Its kinda like a DS-1 + OD-3 in one pedal together w/ a blend knob.

Now I only played it at guitar center (barf) thru their little pedal testing station. It a stand w/ a speaker at the bottom w/ a bunch of pedals that you can test. It a pretty crappy way to test pedal as you can't choose the amp that you're hearing or even know what it is. The pedal seemed pretty good tho. The knob for blending the overdrive/distortion seemed pretty cool. I like the distortion better then the overdrive which was weird as I don't really like DS1s & prefer overdrive. Don't get me wrong I liked the overdrive but it just wasn't as impressive as the distortion.

Has anyone played one of these in a real-world setting? What's your thoughts of it?

i own this pedal, and i really love it. though i dont use it any more because i prefer the OD of my twin. but the blending is very interesting and you can get a unique and personal setting from it

he's right mcconachiea it's really low to insult someone's taste in tone because they use a certain pedal. So Kurt used a ds-1 and there are a lot of Kurt wannabes out there, that doesn't mean you should insult every person who uses one. Would you call every one of the thousands of people who went out and bought the Satchurator the day it came out a Satriani wannabe or insult their taste? Just to be frank with you, I think people on here give you such a hard time, not because you play a JS and happen to like Metallica and are inspired by their tone or because you like Bogner, I think you give people a ton of crap and they treat you bad cuz of it. Let's face it I'm the only person on here who's a die hard Vox fan and people state that they don't like Vox or that they think Valvetronix amps sound artificial or what ever, but they drop it after that because I don't treat them like crap.

McC, no harm done.

But just to clarify, I'm not a grunge man, and I only really use the ds-1 with the distortion and tone both set to 0. I am mainly concerned with playing blues at the moment, and I just use the pedal to dirty up my Telecaster a bit.

I once used the ds-1 with 'Teh Kurdtz' settings (tone on 5, distortion on 10) and it sounded revolting. I can see why people wouldn't like the thing, but my needs are simple.
